forgot about Torres, he was a good signing.

I don't consider Sundin good value at all considering he offered him that ridiculous 2 year/20 mil contract that Sundin himself said no thanks "I'll just take the 1 year"

Hamhuis/Garrison wanted to play here.

Demitra and Wellwood were 2 others I forgot about.

- Nucker101

Demitra -Vrbata
Maholtra - Beagle light
Garrisson - Gudbrandson
Wellwood- Baertschi
Sundin-Eriksson only longer
Torres-Roussel

I liked the Malhotra, Samuelsson, Demitra, Wellwood and Torres deals.

Sundin for that 1 year was cool, but the fact that 2 years/20M was on the table is absurd so I can't say that I give Gillis credit for a "good signing" there.

Sturm sucked ass.

Not sure who else is missing from the UFA list.

I'd say Gillis batted over .500 on his significant UFA signings. He found a couple of cheap 1 year wonders like Stanton and Santorelli too.

The issues were his drafting, his trades made post-2011, and some of his re-signings.

He was fine, for being 38 years old and missing half the year he still had 28 points in 40 games.

I'll take Garrison over Gudbranson, Garrison's main issue was that his shooting was crazy inaccurate but the was never AHL caliber here for 10+ game stretches like EG was at times. Garrison just cost money, EG cost a pick+prospect + money too.

Wellwood was free, Sven cost a 2nd round pick.

Sundin >>>> Eriksson

Agree with the rest.

Skipped the author's take, but looked at the summary of moves.

His UFA work was solid. His drafting was ugly. His trades started off pretty decently and then got progressively worse and worse to thee point where he was paying premium prices for washed up vets.

I'd say that's a fair take, no?

Terrible

To be fair, only 1 of those guys got decent money though, the rest only cost contract slots.

I'd take everyone one of those contracts except Sturm over Schaller/Eriksson/Gagner just because they're irrelevant to the cap and off the books fast. Most of them were signed as AHL call-up depth for one year.

Anyways Benning will be ran out of town next year just like Gillis was 5 years ago, but as time passes in another 5 years the fans of Vancouver will be begging to bring him back and even name streets and first borns after him.

Fair take.

Although he made some not bad moves, his reluctance to address 2nd line scoring was the biggest downfall, he actually thought Higgins was a 2nd liner.

I don't get the Beagle is "solid" take either. His stat line was terrible and he wasn't noticeable enough for an "energy" player.

I'm sure he's great in the locker room, but his on-ice play did not live up to his contract.

Love Roussel though, that guy was fun to watch and was noticeable most games

The best part about Higgins was that his brother posts on HF, he brother said that even Higgins himself was surprised that he was getting top 6 minutes and PP time
