This team can absolutely win the next 4, but the stars have to shine. Garret Wilson has more goals than the captain

These aren’t good players. They are elite cup winning players who haven’t been noticeable in three games

You really just want to focus on one thing not see everything else. From what I said in the last thread...

1) The Isles clog the neutral zone and have bodies hanging back.

2) This forces the Penguins to dump and chase.

3) The Pens send too many players in deep with dmen pinching to retrieve the puck.

4) The Isles can easily counter with odd man rushes.

It's a simple, yet effective system that is hard to break through and if you keep trying you will get the results the Pens are getting.

If you're expecting Malkin and Sid to easily dance through that trap because they're elite then you're being unrealistic. Should they be able to do it more than they have? Sure, but that's not how you defeat a strategy like that.

The only way to have a good shot at countering that strategy is have the same one. Let the Isles come to the Pens and use their system against them. It's not pretty or exciting hockey, but you have to do what you need to do.

The pens had their chances playing the way they have. The difficulty comes because they have been losing for 99% of the series. They have to get pressure and force play that way

The Pens gave up odd-man rush after odd-man rush and RARELY sustained any prolonged presence in the Isles zone. They were one and done with each rush only to give up more odd-man rushes.

Yes, they need to get pressure, but they won't do it using their current strategy.

If you have great players on an odd man rush then you should score. Regardless of any coaching, Crosby should have 1 point in three games. He is blowing it. Not Murray. Not jj, not Rutherford

I turned the game off when the Isles made it 2-1. The reason is I just didn't see any fight in this group. When you score the first goal at home you should be the team that takes over the game. Didn't happen.

I have a question regarding Johnson. He played fifteen minutes today. What was the reason the Pens were outplayed the other forty-five?

Why blame the coach when you have elite players not scoring. It’s not Sullivan’s fault Crosby Malkin Kessel and Letang are nonexistent
- jchst22

Some of it is though. When you see that certain lineup decisions aren’t working or CERTAIN STYLES then you change them. You make adjustments. Depth scoring is a thing too but what is ZAR providing so far? There’s seriously blame all over the place but when a coach sees guys pinching when they shouldn’t be or taking poor angles they need to be dealt with. Why Blueger is the odd man out up front is beyond me

Sure for one game you can blame line ups all you want, but they played 3 and Crosby is just as useless as Reese

I love how the best game we had (getting to overtime game 1) was when Jack Johnson did not dress. When even my 4-year-old son can see how bad he is (he flat out asked me who is #73 daddy? He sucks!" it's time to let him have a seat in the press box then execute a buyout!

Onto the fun part... I am a metal head and as such; I have hair down to my shoulders. I love the Pens through and through, but I am so confident that this version of the Penguins will not win this series that if they somehow win the series I will shave my head completely!

It's crazy how much better I felt about this team than the 2017 one and this one is down 3 games to zip in 1st round and the 2017 won the cup haha... Guys, coming down the stretch they had 2nd best record since March started. They were top 2 or 3 in a lot of the the stats that get used around here in that time frame. They were playing solid hockey alot of nights. They played solid the first game for the most part.

Im not giving up on them yet. F that. Watching that game Tuesday with a Geno home jersey on. See what happens.

The Pens time has run out. With all the regular season and playoff games they've played the last few years, those guys are probably burned out. Every championship team goes through it. Look at Chicago. Three Cups in 6 yrs and a couple of other long runs and they're now on the outside looking in. The Pens need a vacation. A longer one than they usually get.

And you can't blame it all on Johnson. There are four other players and a goalie out there and none of them are getting it done.

I’m actually out. Not that it makes a difference or anyone cares. But I can’t read anymore garbage by the “pens” blogger anymore. Ill start revisiting when he gets some sucker to hire him for his “expertise “ Toodles.

Hahaha I certainly can hang my hat on that too. Especially when there's been 2 in the past 4 years, 3 in 10. Not to mention all the crazy good individual performance seasons with the Hart, Art Ross, Calder and Conn Smythe trophies. Hell, even the gold medals and juniors with Sid. Hockey fan blessed.

Still though, I'm not done with this year. Let's see what next game brings.

I was one to hypothetically suggest (emphasis on hypothetical boyd) jj over maatta. He proved all he needed to in game 2. Hope he’s in the press box game 4. Wonder what Olli thinks (#traderequest). I’ve been a jj hater since we signed him. Despite the shenanigans surrounding him, this team is going nowhere despite 3 or 73 being in the lineup. Everyone’s right and wrong. Sully doesn’t have an answer to Trotz, stars should be doing more despite systematical coaching decisions, depth players are non existent, Murray isn’t standing on his head in a time of need. No one is totally to blame, but no one is stepping up to put the team in a great position to get a win. Not to mention, the isles are playing a hell of a series. That eberle goal summed it up for me, tic-tac-toe and a shot like that from that angle to answer the pens was a microcosm of their current opportunism. Everyone can step back from the ledge cuz win or lose, this team will be back in the playoffs. Window is wide open for a long time. I think RW is right on though by saying the fringes of the roster is where the cup is won and lost and GMJR has not made anywhere near the type of intelligent decisions that were made in 2016. I will give jimmy credit though because despite jj, pretty much every roster move he made this year turned out much better than most thought they would.

If anybody would have suggested to me that the Pens and Bolts were on the verge of getting swept in the 1st round I would have recommended that person get into rehab.....quickly.

While Sid has been pretty invisible when he does create and set someone up it’s not even turning into a SOG. Jake has been so off there has to be something wrong with him. He’s been so consistent all year.

This ain't over yet... Like no, really, literally, it's not hahah

They can bang off 4 with the players they have... Probably won't, but they can. I think in an elimination game Olli deserves the respect of a spot. He's been on this team longer and he's been a starting dman the majority of games through two cup winning runs... We'll see what coach thinks...

Next game gets my full attention. Could be the last until September.

- MattStrat

time to see if Sully is a pretender or can actually make some moves... if not fire him and get someone else in the off season... too bad they didn't pick up coach Q, the best coach in the business imo. He should really be coaching any team Canada clubs going forward. Not sure why the keep letting the other guy coach Team Canada.
