While you'd rather have Kessel shooting as opposed to Johnson or Gudbranson, you also need to take what the other team gives you. If they'll let the d fire shots from the point, then that's what you do. They don't have to be hard, they just need to get to the net for redirects or rebounds. Easier said that done, but if the Isles take away the slot, then fire away form the point...can't really do much worse. - jmatchett383
Oh I get that. I’m not saying they shouldn’t take those shots at all. Just pointing out what I’m seeing with my spreadsheets. |

I wonder if JR kept his first because he knew he was gonna to have to use it to get rid of JJ. - j.boyd919
It makes me mad/sad that you may be right. |

Hahaha I definitely don’t think that he’s going to trade JJ. I was being facetious hahaha. |

Sadly, the pairs we see now will likely be what we see all year next season. |

I think there’s only one of two ways JJ gets moved/bought out and both are unlikely:
1) There’s a change at GM
2) Ownership tells him to get rid of JJ
I’m sure Tortorella is having a good laugh about all of this. |

Rutherford just signed a new deal. Sully isn't leaving either. The fact that JJ was scratched to start the playoffs is a pretty strong "tell" that the coach would probably not have him on his team if he had his choice. I forget who said it.... One of the beat writers.... He said Sullivan is actually much more into analytics than most people think.
I just wished the GM and Coach would prove they communicate before personnel decisions are made. |

Maybe they can send JJ to Seattle a year early to get to know the city better. |

I definitely think there is a disconnect with JR and Sully when it comes to certain moves like the Reaves trade and the JJ signing. |

FWIW, if the Pens didn't trade Sheary and never signed JJ, who would be taking his place? Rikola? Would that be any better? |

I can't argue with any of this blog.
JJ is not good. Don't like Maatta's lack of speed? Put in Riikola. I'm surprised they put Trotman over him when injury it. I'll take all three of them over JJ.
As far as Crosby goes, his board play continues to be a wonder to watch. It's nearly impossible to take the puck away from him. I know he likes to create but he needs to start shooting more. He's gone back to the days (a couple seasons ago?, where I think he won the Rocket the next year) where he almost refused to shoot.

Thats pretty hypothetical....maybe Rudy?
Also, the ripple effect through the season is impossible to know. I would say they'd of traded for someone else after a month or two of Rikola. |

Good read about Simon if anyone’s interested. - j.boyd919
"Sidney Crosby is not a human being part 2389472938472 but Guentzel is drunk apparently"
All of that article is true. I said after game 2 the one plus I saw was the change from Rust to Simon was actually creating chances. Like you said Jake has completely lost his hands. He is also just not making good plays anywhere on the ice.
No one on this team has been great but it's not entirely Sid's fault he has no points. Regular Season Jake would've had 3 at least by my count.
Sid does have to be more selfish in some of these situations. Leave it all out there next game. |

I’d prefer hunwick and sheary to JJ. |

The swagger that Ryan Reaves provides to Vegas cannot be understated
and the 9 goals and 20 points for a 4th liner aint nothing either..... |

Maybe Reaves would be running down Barzal and Eberle like Matt Martin is doing to Crosby and Guentzel?
Reaves is hitting everything in sight in the Sharks series and it is getting to their players |

Also worth mentioning is Stone and Stastny having 5 point nights each...might be a factor... |

You could argue they could have gone after any number of other Dmen in a hypothetical situation. Hamilton, Hannifin, Faulk etc..... |

The Reaves trade was the first move that showed the Pens going away from their identity. |
