I’m all about:

Maatta-Letang
Dumo-Schultz
Pettersson-Guddy

I don’t think Dumo is 100% and I’d rather limit his ice time.

Last couple games were the worst I’ve seen from Dumo in a very long time.

I’m cool with that. I was just opining that the dcore with those guys can help the identity they want to have.

I dunno. Don’t tell the pens what identity they are. It’s 2019. They could be a zee or a zer. Don’t assume they just want to be called “they.”

The Islanders are winning with a much worse team on paper due to system.

They were very smart.

They watched the past few years, where the New Jersey Devils would be in the basement of the Eastern Conference, playing sub .500 hockey, yet beating the Penguins almost every time we play.

Emulate that and win. I seriously felt more confident this season when we had match ups with Tampa and Washington than I did when we had to play Jersey.

Done.

It’s not that he’s a bad player he just isn’t what that line needs. Crosby needs help with the heavy lifting down low. As it stands you have Crosby first man to the puck every time, then he has to battle for the puck and by the time he wins it he’s double or triple teamed and dead tired. If someone could at least knock pucks free for Sid to scoop up it would be far more beneficial than having another handsy speedy player.

Simon is 2nd on the team with 11 hits and was hitting everything yesterday and was often the first man in on dump ins. He is exactly what that line needs to be successful because not only is he smart and adept to passing but he can play physical and come off the boards with the puck, he also knows how to maneuver through open space to pull defenders. He’s a smart player and those are the ones that succeed with Sid and allow Sid to succeed.

A lot of good thoughts, some I agree with some I don't. The first thing I would like to note is that Rutherford was just signed to a three year extension and that hasn't even kicked in yet. So firing him won't happen. At best he will get reassigned, which of course equates to being fired.

I dont expect Rutherford to get fired, I shouldve said that in my original post.

However, very clearly he isnt making moves with logic/reasoning. I have no idea what type of Assistant GM Billy G is, but I dont see him being a big advanced stats guy either. I'm not saying turn the Penguins front office into an advanced statistics-only mindset, however there clearly needs to be a rethinking of how this organization makes signings/trades. I applaud him for the Florida trade, but I look at most other moves around these last two years and think that Jim has absolutely no plan here. He is just making it up as it goes along.
