Peter Tessier: Jets storm back in 6-3 win
Jets finally solve Binnington as they unleash for six on the rookie goalie.

- Peter.Tessier

Binnington is very solid down low and you have to shoot high on this guy. More traffic the better but the Jets need to continue elevating the puck every chance they get.

Buff has emerged from his rusty state of returning from injury. You can see his game is elevating and he is looking better every game. Morrissey is still a bit rusty but coming along.

Credit to Laine for bringing his playoff game. Didn’t know what type of game he would bring but he was saving it for playoffs. But, he has delivered three good outings at the most important time.

Helle, still hasn’t hit .900 yet and is at .897. I guess the good news he is trending up.

Great team win, like seeing the TLC line again.

"That" same team also showed up in games one and two. Puck luck was the only difference in game one and goaltending in game two. I feel the Jets deserve to be at least 2-1 in this series right now based on their very strong play in all three games. One could argue that Binnington has been the much better goalie in all three games or we would be up 3-0 right now because the Jets have clearly been the better of the two teams in this series otherwise. They have "had it in them" from the drop of the first puck in this series.

BTW....Buff quarterbacking the PP is a world of difference over Trouba. If Maurice had made this change right away we would have finished in first. Also too bad about the Tanev injury for game one. He also might have been the difference maker there. All hindsight now.

Boys followed up a solid game 2 with an even better game 3, but this time we were able to overcome average goaltending.

Most noticeable was the fact that we were finally throwing everything at the net with tons of traffic and crease crashing, instead of waiting for the perfect set-up. Even 55 had a really nice deflection in front and he made a real effort to battle last night, I hope he keeps this up. All skaters looked good last night and Hayes finally brought an increased level of intensity as well.

CharlieDog mentioned going up high on Binnington which I agree with, but you have to have the traffic in front and then those high wristers can find their way in, as opposed to just flying in off the wing and trying to pick the top corner (high & wide).

We have to stop with the dumb penalties, unless of course we end up 4on4. If I was the coach, I would be pushing a few guys on the roster to get into scrums where multiple players are taken off the ice. This is a HUGE advantage for us that we need to find a way to exploit.

So what you are saying is that rolling the lines in this game made no difference. Maurice refused to roll his lines in the first two games.

C'mon dude, you hafta stop drinking the kool-aid.

Lot's to comment on from this game ... one observation (and it's not the top one - may not even be top 2) is -

DO NOT BUST UP TLC ... KEEP TANEV, LOWRY, AND COPP TOGETHER !

Strong line and gives the opposing coach tough decisions for line matching

The Jets used their speed and depth in talent to out play the Blues. In the first 2 games they spent too much time playing a dump and chase game while in game 3 they drove the play into the Blues end and used their skill to out play them. Maurice finally changed his lines and had 3 scoring lines instead of 3 lines that had a mix of checkers and scores with no offensive chemistry. They also didn't try to play an over physical game but concentrated on using their speed. This is how the Jets have to continue to play.

Ultimate is right here.

That was not the same team. Sure same players but they played a much different game. Giving a 50-75% level of adhering to system and countering the Blues kept them in games 1-2 kept them in it but when the put the pedal to the metal it was not contest. They literally took what the Blues could dish and turned right back around on them and scored almost at will.

Sorry Ultimate but I have to disagree with you on this. Obviously its a lot easier to save your top guys for the next game and roll the lines more with a 2 or 3 goal lead as opposed to needing a goal from your scorers in a tight game. However, if you actually look at the ice times of the players they really haven't changed that much from game to game. Hayes didn't play as much in game two than he did in the other two games and Perreault didn't play that much vs game three vs game one ( he deserved the benching) . Otherwise, the ice times were pretty much the same.

No kool-aid here. Laphroaig scotch whiskey all the way going forward.....lol.

I totally disagree Peter. Only a hot goaltender has stopped the Jets from leading this series.

Not true. Last night was not the Blues team we have seen since Jan. They have been out scoring and out performing the jets at 5 v 5. That is why the Blues are up 2-1.

Thanks Peter

It was very evident in the first period, especially, when all the lines were rolling that our game plan was different. I just feel bad for Ehlers, the man is snake bit. He has been doing an excellent job of gaining zone entry and dishing the puck. I was cheering the hardest for him to score last night.

I agree with this. You cannot argue with Jetsnation though. The man drinks up whatever Maurice feeds him. Its one thing to be a homer, but to totally discount the opposition, that is taking being a fan to a whole different level.

Incorrect. I have complimented the Blues several times saying that they are an extremely good team. I still think the difference in who is ahead in this series has come down to goaltending. I also fault Maurice for some things that to me are blatantly wrong such as Trouba on the first PP unit or not keeping the TLC line together. I don't fault him for keeping Sheif and Wheels together though as they definitely belong together in the same ilk as Kucherov and Stamkos or Seguin and Benn or Marchand and Bergeron...or Gretzky and Kurri, Hull and Oates.

it's really not that simple. I am reposting this from previous:

"Rolling the lines happens when all lines are playing with equal commitment and when you have at least a tie, but more likely a lead.

Rolling lines when you are down gets people complaining about Roslovic being on the ice with 3 minutes left and trailing.

us fans need to remember that we are not on the bench and don't know who is nursing injuries or in a mental funk or not listening to coaches. It all has to be right to roll lines effectively."

going to buy some Laphroaig, haven't had kool-aid in years.

2.0. When it comes to Scotch whiskeys, I'm generally not much of a fan of about 90% of them. However, I've found Laphroaig 10 year old Islay to be that perfect balance. Maybe even better than that is Auchentoshan 12 yr Single malt. Add an ice cube to either and your set. If it's Irish then it Jamisons for me. Good luck with it !

I will have to try the Laphroaig some time, I'm usually a "masses" type of guy regarding Scotch, Mcallan is what I gravitate to, which is more for the "people". Oban not bad, but have to try this fancy Laphroaig.

Irish whisky, well OK. Toured the Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland once but not a big fan of Irish whisky.

Oh, are we supposed to talk hockey here?

How do you assess a players commitment by leaving him on the bench? If said player is not committed, than what does that say about coaches ability to motivate a said player or the GM's ability to acquire motivated players?

Today's NHL is about having 3 scoring lines with a checking line. Maurice looks like he realized that, in the last game. All I have heard all season is that we have a top 6 and bottom 6.
