I think it's more about what we gave up for him vs him being a superstar.

14g20a for a 4th rounder is a good deal for us.

- RhinoFan

This is the point I was trying to make.

All picks beyond the 3rd round have approximately 12% chance to make it to the NHL. I'll gamble a late round (4th or lower) pick on a genuine NHL player 10/10 times.

2 of my good friends were there Sunday. They watched him at 16... said there is nothing like it. Golf with Tiger is just better.
- CoHo_to_B-Lo

Agreed!

It's great for the game when Tiger is in contention and playing well.

It's amazing for the game when he is in contention and wins a major.

David Duval’s answer to young pro golfers who say they wish they could have run up against Tiger in his prime- “The hell you do.”

You're right but I just don't like it.

I don't like the Yankees or the Cowboys either. Its kinda the same.

Same. Preference I guess. So many people get excited about Tiger. I just don't get why. I do, but I don't.

How so?

The 90's Yankees were bought with an inflated payroll (minus the home grown talents of Jeter who I respect the hell out of, Posada and Rivera)

The Cowboys were Jerry's little dream.

Tiger changed the game of golf. They literally had to make golf courses more difficult just for him aka Tiger-Proofing.

I understand rooting against greatness (see Patriots and Golden State)

But Tiger is just above those IMO.

Agreed the Yankees and Cowboys didn't change their sport, I get its the "hate greatness" thing, but Tiger single-handily evolved and grew the sport of golf.

So you're racist (seriously I am joking before anyone takes me seriously here I AM JOKING)

To me Tiger is golf. He won his first tournament when I was in 7th grade and his first major when I was in 8th. I am 35 years old.

I started playing golf because of Tiger.

That's why I get excited about Tiger winning.

Hot take or not so hot take:
Nobody will sign Skinner for $9 million.
Not in FA and definitely not the Sabres.

My sister and BIL are big golf and Tiger fans. I am neither, but I do enjoy watching the big tourneys. I don't want to sound like a Moral Oral, he's just kind of a pos. And I don't like him. Good for him for winning. IDC if he wins or loses. Just don't like him. He can be as revolutionary as he wants. Not cheering for him. Not cheering against him.

If I were to pick a guy, I'd pick Dustin Johnson.

You know why Dustin Johnson took almost a year off from the pga tour? Odd pick.

He's no barn burner, but he's a middle 6 depth player who provides some nice modern NHL elements to his game, and is capable of 50 points. With better center depth, I don't think 40-50 should be a problem for him. This is a guy who was worth a 4th round pick with a 2.2M, 2 yr cap dump, with 1 year of forced rostering.

The depth at the LW position was nil. He served a nice, very cheap fill in. Remember, the condition of the pick was a 3rd if he hit 20g/40pts. This was essentially his expectations, and he hit 34, which isn't too far off.

You're right, he is 'just a guy', but his services came dirt floor cheap.

- TheSabresTaco

I just don't see how anyone could be happy with him. He was a salary dump and we took on a 2nd salary dump to get him. He played 2nd line minutes with a preposterous % of ozone starts, and produced like a third liner. It's not like we're talking about a solid two-way forward with intangibles. He's a one dimensional player and that dimension isn't very good.

It’s not a “hate greatness” thing, I think, it’s just I don’t want to root for the favorite. And during his greatest years, he was not widely liked by other golfers. Really arrogant and aloof.

I like to root for an underdog. After his “history” I actually started liking Tiger more. He became more modest.

I respect his skills, and everything he has to do personally and physically to get back into winning form. I just don’t root for him.

Exactly. Even if he scores at the same clip next year, 2 years of that is more than you're going to get from that pick about 90% of the time.
