This team is a mess from top to bottom an its going to take more that moving 1 or 2 players to change it. The Oilers have a losing culture and have to change at least a dozen players over the next 2 years and replace them with players that know what it takes to win.

Hockey buzz has a losing culture and needs to delete you as a means of starting to change it.

CULTURE! The oilers suffer from the same ailments the Islanders have had... a phenomenal early history of success which led to a time of futility and poor management!
The Oilers need a whole sale top to bottom management change, every one from the owners secretary , president... straight down to the guy taking the garbage out.. they need to go ...The Islanders and oilers have had good players.. great players and decent coaches.. but success starts at the top.. Ownership needs to give the keys over to people who know how to win!
Look what Malkin did by hiring Lou and Barry!
the Oilers will get there hopefully soon!
I look forward to a cup rematch of 83-84!

5 things that lead to their demise last year:
1) Peter Chiarelli
2) ownership - management
3) Lucic & Russell contracts
4) wing depth
5) McLellan

This looks about right. Also, apparently...
6) Reider
7) The water

My hopes for this off-season, since they are likely going into it with the interim GM still in charge, is simply clearing up some cap space. Give the new GM something to work with when he comes on board, but him do all the personnel stuff.

Only one thing killed the Oilers... Chiarelli. That’s it. End thread. Sucks too because I want to see McDavid succeed. I loved watching the kid in person in Erie when I’d go home.

The only way to force the owners to change is by hitting their bank accounts. From everything I've heard about Gretzky, they've just replaced Chia with another clown. So this continues until the fans stop paying.

The only problem with that statement is nobody has replaced Chiarelli yet. Gretzky is temporary.

What's even more intriguing is seeing Dubas navigate the cap hell he created by signing Tavares only to get knocked out in round one again.

The season died before it even started.

Should have added a guy like Hoffman who was shopped for peanuts. He could have played with RNH and provided secondary scoring. Would have helped the PP as well.

Then something like Pulj or Yamo, plus a body like Benning for Montour. Have to upgrade that defense and it's going to cost assets to do so. Montour becomes a top 4 guy for many years to come.

Finally, a coach that just plants Lucic in the pressbox. Maybe after a few months of this he would accept an AHL gig. Still get paid. But he needs to be off the roster.

Oh and then obviously undo the Spooner, Manning, Petrovic trades.

If they didn't trade Taylor Hall, maybe they could have had 2 more first overall picks on the roster.

Talbot was brutal again and again was a big part of how the Oilers were always down a goal or two to start the game.

I would bet a solid sum of money that Talbot let's in the first shot on him more than any other nhl goalie to play more than 20 games in the entire history of the nhl.

Unreal how bad that guy was for us.

Sounds like Dubnyk! If Talbot turns his game around next year, then what? Some solid pieces not enough talent.

I was wondering the same thing last night why it was assumed the Flames would just walk all over the Avs....cool moment for Makar to get his first NHL playoff goal in his first NHL game

Amazing period by them! Mackinnon really showing his quality. I've got money on Dallas over Nashville and Columbus over Tampa (this one's looking good for me) so I'm sympathetic to the plight of the underdog.

Flames could still easily win this series, but it's not gonna be as easy as most of their fans thought it would be.
