Not if your guys are developing.

That's certainly possible.

I don't see Sanheim being less then Gostisbehere. i think he showed he will be a top 4 guy for this team now and the future.
- J35Bacher

Perhaps, but Sanheim hasn't done what he did for a full year, as Ghost has done so in multiple years. Even in his down year, he is still worth his contract. I think the fact that Sanheim's contract expires this year. Ghost also played in 10 more games over the two year span prior to signing his new deal and had 40 more points than Sanheim. His ATOI was also higher than Sanheim, and initially Ghost had immediately been put on the first PP unit as well as the first unit on the ice in OT. I know that Sanheim eventually had more special teams time as well as more OT time, but all these little factors, I think will lead to a smaller cap hit than Ghost.

IF they develop. Not all prospects turnout or live up to the hype.

You're wrong. What I've said is that it is about timing. I don't think now is the time for going after big money free agents. What I haven't said is that the team should never make a trade or sign a free agent.

Hextall has set this team up. A lack of patience from management in seeing through what they started and what they wanted when Hextall was hired is what got him fired.

so if the window is 2 years, isn't now the time to add that FA or trade?

There is never a wrong time to make a smart trade. I think it's the wrong time to spend big money on free agency.

Draft and develop according to MJL, that's all you need. Screw the Ifs

He's going to probably be the top center available and coming off a deal where his cap hit was 5.125. I think it will be close to 7. He's 26 years old and can play all situations. Teams over pay in FA

Everybody is very quick to trade Ghost but I think that may be a mistake. Sure, he had a down year but what he brings offensively especially on the PP is not easy to replace. Sanheim can, I guess but dont think he can reach Ghost's level especially from two years ago.

Provorov
Sanheim
Ghost
Gudas
Myers
Hagg
Morin

If we are to replace one of them with a veteran D, I would rather replace Gudas even though he had a good season with Hagg being the 7th.

- flyerfan48

with AV as our coach I give Ghost 1 more year to prove he's not a poopty form of EK

so 2 years from now, they have to hope the right FA is available?

We agree, I think FA is the last lever they should pull to win but if they can get a player that fills a need for the next 4 years, I think you can pull that lever now with minimal comparative risk.

Also when i talk about trades to get better I am not just saying youth for older guys or vice versa.

Why can't we find a Niederreiter or Rask type of deal?

Something like Gostisbehere for Trocheck? Would that deal be even for both teams? Flyers get a 2nd line center, PK guy with good speed and plays a gritty game. Also can slide to wing if Frost is ever ready for a center role.

Both guys are 25 and on reasonable deals.

Those are the trades i think need to be explored. Not just youth and picks for a veteran but maybe swap one area for another.

I would really like RNH. I think he would be a perfect acquisition. He could be that 2 way forward that plays 2C for us for a few years.

And hopefully he isn't considered to be an "older Vet". Tyler Johnson is another guy I would target. 2 teams with cap issues that will likely be making a bit of a change. If there is a way to pull off a trade where we get McDonagh... a top 2 defender that knows AV's system plus Johnson a 2C that plays a 200ft game that would be ideal.

I would make anyone not named Frost or Farabee available as far as prospects are concerned. I believe Ghost would be going the other way. And we would likely have to add a roster player. I would include Lindblom. As much as I like him, I would rather it be him then Konecny.

Id absolutely be in on RNH 100%, think he would slot in perfectly on this team.

That's the whole argument right? "You wont have money for your RFA's when they get better."

But obviously those players aren't good enough to replace the guys on current large contracts. lol

I’m ok with it. We’ll see.... the summer they signed Giroux and made all those other silly moves I said this team was headed for mediocrity and ate a lot of crow at the time, so I don’t want to be negative but i do feel like this team is too soft. I don’t see AV as a guy who helps change that perception.

I missed you Joe.

I disagree, AV will have them playing a fast breakout system. I'm excited.
