I missed you Joe.

I disagree, AV will have them playing a fast breakout system. I'm excited.

- youarewrong

but will they play defense and not entirely rely on the goalie?

Strange I don’t recall you but thanks. 👍🏻
Like I said, we’ll see. He did get to the finals twice with two different teams so he’s a competent coach. He also had some stellar rosters. I don’t know if he has that here. We’ll see. [/img]

I'll take the 25-30 goal scorer that has 3 selke nominations and is only 28.

It would take a lot to get him from Colorado.

Moving a guy like Voracek opens up another hole.

Like Tavares leaving created that gaping void on the Islanders?

I’m ok with it. We’ll see.... the summer they signed Giroux and made all those other silly moves I said this team was headed for mediocrity and ate a lot of crow at the time, so I don’t want to be negative but i do feel like this team is too soft. I don’t see AV as a guy who helps change that perception.
- JoeRussomanno

Which coach beyond AV do you see as the one that could change that perception?

Not this guy and they could’ve just stuck with Gordon. This isn’t a blockbuster hiring by any stretch of the imagination .

That’s just it isn’t it? I think certain people are stuck in their ways and they’re not about to get out of their perimeter pete comfort zones to play the type of hockey we need them to play to win.

Do you think the Islanders would have a better chance of winning the Cup with Taveras or without him?

They could've but why when you can hire Vigneault. The Flyers hired a coach who is a much better coach than either of the two coaches they had last season.

Similar argument when i told people this team was in a race to the bottom when they gave Giroux that contract....People who don’t know what they’re looking at rely on stats. If stats dictate everything then why have scouts?

What was wrong with the contract they gave Giroux? Or are you referencing the team at that point?

the 12th all time wins leader in NHL history, 3 presidents trophy seasons, 2 cup appearances, a career .632 win percentage, 5 100 point seasons?

Nahhhh, not blockbuster at all.

Gordon is an up and coming coach who made this team look competitive quick. I really wonder what an off-season and training camp with him would’ve done. I agree that he’s a good coach but again i think the franchise is over valuing.

Over valuing how? Gordon relied on a rookie goalie to save his ass and he did.

You're argument though is against the team. Giroux has not only lived up to his contract, it's almost been a bargain compared to other 8M+ contracts given out across the league. Secondly, his contract in no way shape or form restricted the front office from surrounding him with talent. His contract, almost had zero to do with them being in a race to the bottom, his contract is fair market value for what he does.

next.

Also, they lost their number one defenseman to a freak career ending injury, not management or Giroux's fault.

It’s a shame to see that after so many mediocre years the kool aid hasn’t lost its flavor.
