MJL drove 50% of FLyers Buzzers to HF Boards, it's actually pretty insane.

Wait a minute, you're going to marginalize that Vigneualt has coached 3 teams to 50+ win seasons, coached 8 teams to 100 point seasons, won the Jack Adams award for coach of the year, and coached two teams to the Cup finals versus what Gordon did as an interim coach? You haven't been around for a while Joe, but with this and the Giroux comments, you're embarrassing yourself.
- MJL

I’m not ignoring that. What i’m doing is simply saying that despite his attributes he might not be the right fit. No a coach doesn’t have to be a ra-ra guy and rule with an iron fist. But a team that plays this soft and underachieves for this long might not be the best fit for this coach. I’m kinda glass half-full. What standard are we setting tho? Do we just want to get back to the playoffs or do we want to win a cup? I think he’s good enough to squeeze a playoff run out of them. Is he good enough to squeeze a cup? I’m doubtful looking at this roster. You need a serious face lift for this team. Strong defensive play is not it’s strength by any stretch of the imagination. And this team is not tough to play against. Does Vigneault’s style strike you as the type that can fix this? It doesn’t for me but Gordon’s tenure seemed to change that. As far as my Giroux comments sorry man but this guy is not a (frank)ing NHL captain or franchise player. Just admit i told you guys this team would suck for years with him being their franchise guy and it has. Just (frank)ing admit it. Why has this been you might ask? He and Voracek are two prima-donnas. They are opportunistic and cannot impose their will on the other teams. Especially not any of the better teams in the league. They disappear far too long. They play too passively. They suck as leaders. I’ve seen worse flyer teams on paper do much more. It’s time you and the rest of the fanbase wake up. The only ones embarrassing themselves are the ones acting like this pile of poop team is a bowl of candy.

So much here that is off base. If you're going to go with he might not be the right fit as a shot in the dark, isn't it true that it could also be that he is the right fit? I'm not sure that you have much credibility here if you're ignoring his resume and calling Gordon an up and coming coach based on a half a season as an interim coach. The Flyers still had a lot of the same issues under Gordon that you name here. Who is more likely to straighten a team a proven NHL bench boss or Gordon who has had limited success at the NHL level? Gordon is the same as Hakstol, he's a good developmental coach but he is not the NHL tactician that Vigneault is.

Giroux is a franchise player who is one of the best players in franchise history. There needs to be a better team around him.

Your last line makes me regret, again, that we did not do a full-on teardown of this underachieving, mercurial, awful collection of players.

I did not say all the players were awful, but this COLLECTION, is.

We might be in a better position. And rid of bad contracts if we did.

Because the point of the teardown is for fans to not have playoff expectations.

But here we are, no?

Proceed without BUT WE HAVE HART.

Thanks.

Just to play devils advocate, we might not be in a better position too. Take a look at Edmonton. How many picks have they had, top picks too. They are not a playoff team. Just because you get the top pick in the draft doesn't guarantee success. Conner McDavid is a generational talent and yet, since he's been in the league have the Oilers won a Cup?

Well why would anyone want a teardown, after beating the Penguins in 2012. That team had pretty much the same core and our guys were 8 years younger, I know I wouldn't have wanted a teardown then. And then 2012-13 didn't go our way, Homer was still in charge, made some bad signings, so then is 2014 when we would have wanted the teardown? I just don't fall in the category of people that look very obtusely at something and then keep that very narrow point of view towards what they thought the problem was.

I just can't for the life of me think why any educated fan, would see a core of Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, and Couturier, and think, we'd be better tearing this down. What went wrong back then and really the problem stemmed years back with Homer drafting in the years of 2008-2013, is the lack of resources spent on goalies and defensemen. Sure we drafted them, but whoever Homer was trusting to scout couldn't hit on any of them really. We drafted 6 goalies between 08-13 and only one of them played more than 1 game in a flyers uniform (Anthony Stolarz).

We also drafted 15 defensemen during that time, and I bet you couldn't even guess half of them. Thankfully we got Gostisbehere out of that era, I guess Hagg, and who knows about Morin, but I fully believe what was wrong with us was the front office. with their willingness to give up draft picks, and their unorthodox drafting in that time period, it never replenished the system and didn't surround those core guys with the talent that is coming up now.

Hextall set this franchise up moving forward for a lot of success in my opinion, I just hope we're not too late ruining the primes of the aforementioned core (minus Simmer) of course.

Doesn't make that ok either. So 2 wrongs do not make a right.

Once again. Ron Hextall had zero intention of this team making the playoffs from when he took over, until he was fired.

His 'plan' would have been over when we made the playoffs; using his draft-first/develop policy. Period.

He wanted his own (for lack of a better word but by now it's synonymous with our city) PROCESS.

But the Sixers actually did it right with the Full-Tank.

They saw no reason to waffle. To be as bad as it gets to be in the POSITION to DRAFT ELITE TALENT is everything, because God knows how hard it is to sign/trade for them.

Even if the Sixers don't win this year....and just to switch to hockey for metaphor purposes, WE need our MALKIN/CROSBY or MACDAVID/DRAISAITL or TAVARES/MATTHEWS.

I understand ok teams can make runs like in 2010.

I would prefer and enjoy the pre-season favorite status with a real chance to win.

As far as Vigneault: I am glass HALF full. I have my doubts AND hopes.
As far as Giroux stop making excuses. Eric lindros had mediocrity galore around him . So did Richards but both those guys got to the playoffs and won some series.
