I hope Columbus wins another round then loses in the ECF, Duchene signs, BJs miss the playoffs on the last night of the season end in 2020, win the lottery with the BJs pick... Have 3 1st round picks in 2020 season including no. 1 seed overall. |

Definitively need more than that quote to think 95 signs there. He gave plenty of good quotes about his time in Ottawa. How many players have crapped on their current team fans?
The reality is, if Bobrovsky and Panarin walk, are they really that better than the Sens? 95 also said it’s not about the money too..... |

My memory of Martin was that he's a very defensive coach. Is that still the case? If so, I'd think I'd rather take a pass on him.
Duchene re-signing would be great now that they've won a round. Seems pretty crazy how far that pick could fluctuate if they win their next round. |

Fair point on Duchene's comments.
Dubois Duchene is a very good 1-2 punch down the middle though. Jones Werenski are both young two, and they'd have a bunch of cap space.
They'd take a big hit with those two leaving though. Curious to see where they'd end up when you balance out a whole season of Duchene (we saw how dominant he could be), maybe Dzingle, along with the development of their young players. |

As I've said before, I would take Martin back here in the blink of an eye. The team's in a similar position it was back then when he started here in OTT (bunch of new/young players, no superstar), he's got plenty of experience in that situation.
And he's a local guy. |

I would like the Sens to go for the homerun with Ronberg as coach. Jarmo broke the barrier of international GM's, somebody has to break through for coaching...and I hope it isn't Ulf Samuelsson that does...anybody but him. |

they should be pushing really hard to get Keefe out of Toronto. the guy has to know that he has no shot at the big job there, at least not for another 5-6 years.
he'd be a great coach for our young guys, and not cost the 5 mil per year that the big name guys are getting. |

that poop needs to stop......people blame Lalime for all the failures in Ottawa back then because he had (frank)ing one bad game. look at his numbers, they were incredible in the playoffs.
people need to stop blaming Lalime for the ENTIRE TEAMS failure. |

It's never about the money, except it usually is.
Martin Brodeur said it was about winning and stayed in NJ when he could have gotten more elsewhere.
Scott Gomez said he went to the hated Rangers in large part because of the money and that careers are short and hockey is a business. He was frank about it.
We'll see what happens with these guys in Columbus soon enough. It is an interesting situation for sure.

He never said anything close to what he said there in regards to Ottawa. He was complimentary when he was first introduced, but these comments took it to another level. He wants to win, and they're winning. I don't think it'll take much convincing to keep him if they're doing well

Zero chance.....that guy was painfully overrated. Some of the biggest prospect flops in team history occurred under his tutelage. There’s also a reason he’s bounced around the league since he left Ottawa, without getting a longer term gig.
There are 50 guys I’d bring in before him |

JM was very defensive minded as a coach. I seem to remember him not liking Jason Spezza because he was so offensive minded.
I don't see the point in going back to the old coaching system that didn't get us any success.
As for Duchene, I'm still hopeful that he resigns here. but I can't see him wanting to stay with the Blue Jackets. Especially when Bob and P are gone.

Jacques Martin had some success by implementing a structured defensive system that was so mechanical that they could win games in the clutch & grab era despite limited talent. However, he also routinely coached the emotion out of his team, and proved to be relatively inept at maximizing the value of higher-end talents like Hossa or Alfredsson, or being able to adapt effectively to the modern post-lockout game. The difference with Spezza is that he was a fundamentally lazy player, which compounded the frustrations that Martin had with him... and why other young players like Vermette and Fisher were often played ahead of him in the lineup.
Regardless, I really doubt that he's capable of coaching in the new NHL effectively at this point... or is the right choice if they're trying to brand themselves as an exciting and entertaining young team. |
