I don't get how a coach can have such great success with a team for one year and then the team completely burns out. Guy Boucher was considered a great coach when he got the Lightning to the conference finals, and even more so with the Sens. Was it just luck or coincidence? Kind of reminds me of Ted Nolan coached teams. Can somehow get teams to overachieve for a short period of time but then something happens and it all falls apart.
It would be interesting to get the player perspective of playing for these underwhelming coaches. For example why things fell apart, was it the limits of the coaching style or personalities.
Agree that these poor coaches are a symbol of the poor leadership- They lack the creativity to pick young coaches and are too cheap to pay for a well known coach, so instead we get guys that are known commodities and below average
