How great would it be as Sabres fans to see them have a season like Calgary just did, or would losing in the first round of the playoffs as the number 1 team in the conference be such a kick in the balls that it would render the joy of the regular season meaninglessness?
Perspective is such a fickle female dog. |

There is no joy for Buffalo fans. We always look at everything from the worst possible angle. In this particular scenario there would be people who believe the regular season was a waste and they just should’ve tanked. |

The Playoffs are a nasty beast, But, Yes you should be able to build off of a great regular season even if you fail to have success in the playoffs, unless of course if you're Mike Harrington who believes the entire regular season was a waste of time if you do falter in the playoffs. |

I’ve been trying to say this all year long. The last 8 regular seasons of non-playoff hockey has been nothing compared to watching all of the Bronco heartbreaks. The mile high miracle when the Ravens won in Denver on route to their Super Bowl win and the loss to the Seahawks by 30+ in the Super Bowl were my two worst experiences as a Sports Fan.
Would I love to make the playoffs ? Of course. I would also like to have a good hockey team and right now we maybe have 5 guys that can help us do that so I’m excited to add another guy at 7 to help us out. |

Hence why I’ve been public enemy number 1 since the end of December. |

I have no idea who 'those' people would be, but I could hazard a somewhat accurate guess or two. |

But, Denver did win a Super Bowl with a barely upright Manning.
Calgary was a good team this year, right? They had the 2nd most points and a massive +62 goal differential, and that was with I believe at best adequate goaltending.
Even with the first round loss, I'd be quite happy being as good as Calgary was this year and as good as they look to be on an annual basis. |

Am I getting this debate right? Some would rather be in perpetual rebuild mode than have their team win and make the playoffs? |

Everyone should rather be Calgary because they have the roster to continually be good for a while.
What people shouldn’t want is us “going all in” for a short term run |

I know most coaches won't just change goalies midstream but then again this is the playoffs. I watched last nights game on AHLTV and to me it didn't look like Wedgewood was challenged much. Not to blame Wedgewood but sometimes when a team is lacking confidence (I mean how many goal posts/crossbars did the Amerks ding) a goalie can shut the door and play lights out and give your team a boost until they get their heads on straight.

Bingo. Even with Calgary’s first round playoff exit they have the pieces to be competitor year in and year out. Just like when the Leafs and Jets lost in 2016 everyone knew those teams would be back next year even stronger. I expect the same with Calgary. |

I’d rather perpetually rebuild and when we finally make the playoffs be mainstays year in and year out. |

The first sentence you typed was my main point, but I doubt any Sabres fan would be excited about the season that just was if they were number 1 in the conference and lost in the first round. The level of female doging would be immense, even if they looked to be good long term like Calgary does.
Speaking of the Flames, a Flames fan wants to get rid of Monahan. Where do I sign up to trade for him? |
