Grinding his gears, huh Paul? Never crossed my mind.

D, I think "giving him the gears" is some sort of Canadian lingo, eh? Similar to busting balls.

As head of their PR department, I think he’s addressing a lot of angry letters from season ticket holders.

Do season ticket holders pen angry letters anymore or do they just go ballistic on Twitter?

- HawkintheD

Well, if they're Hawk fans, they get on the HB Hawks board and complain about the owner's dad, McD or Stan. While winning Cups, no less. Quite the feat, mi amigo.

Bingo !! Congratulations .Way to go Hurricanes.!! .I was Sick of OV act quick .TT playing very well . Slick pick by Stan ,shame HAWKS could not keep him ..GO CANES GO
- oldduffman

There was nothing slick about Bowman picking TT, he was projected to go higher actually. And you can't celebrate a good pick and ignore how he then managed that pick. Sorta like Leddy, Stan made a great move to get Leddy, but a horrific move when unloading him. So it's a wash.

TT is a terrific player and you could see his post season potential in 2015. Canes got a boondoggle there.

Horrific move? Leddy and TT were traded for cap space and or to try to win another championship. In hindsight Leddy was a great move keeping Oduya to win the third cup and it was unlikely the Hawks would have been able to re-sign Leddy due to cap considerations. TT was moved again for cap considerations, moving Bickell's contract. I guess maybe Bowman should have known Bickell had MS and would have been able to be put on LITR? Danault was a bad move because it appeared Bowman and Quenneville weren't on the same page on that one. And Seabrooke's contract was a really bad move.

his cap hit was $4.5 mil, they would of had $3.6 mil. in dead money that they needed to field a team.

And Hossa still wanted to play instead of going LTIR earlier with the gunk.

Logic would dictate Cole Caufield, to make sure that we can score more goals than we let in.

So losing Teravainen was worth clearing $3.6 in space?

You have 20/20 hindsight like the rest of us. At the time the tradeoff to get cap space must have appeared to favour moving TT.

I thought it was weird at the time too.

Turbo's turned into a really good two-way guy. He's really good at get his stick in the passing lane.

Please don't poke that bear. There are strong arguments on both sides of this one. TT was notorious in his time here for not seeming to put much offseason effort into getting better opting to play a bunch of golf and going back to Finland, etc. So at the time, there were overtones that he wasn't fully committed to becoming better. Being that he is a smaller player, that didn't sit all that well with many.

On the other hand, he was still very young when traded, and to be fair, he actually we pretty effective defensively, he just was prone to get knocked off the puck a bit.

As far as the trade itself, I think Stan overreacted a bit, but I'm not terribly concerned that TT was traded looking at it from a point production standpoint. The Hawks have never had much of an issue scoring goals. Their issues, in recent history, have been keeping pucks out of their net.

Glad TT worked on his game and is fulfilling his promise, reports were he was adverse to working out when he was here in Chicago, probably matured and figured out what he needed to do to get to the next level.

I was always supportive of TT, but they absolutely needed to move Bickell and no question they paid a high price to do it. Not much else to say about it. TT is a nice player, not a guy that will carry a team on his own, but talented and will rack up points when playing with other talented players.

I would think Man to man would be susceptible to offensive pick plays and you just know coaches will devise all kinds of offensive movement and stationary picks to make the defenders stop dead in their tracks allowing the offense to create odd man advantges. I could understand calling man to man in certain situations to try to stop an offensive that is applying all kinds of pressure but I'm not really sure how man to man can work as the sole means of defensive coverage?
- paulr

The Caps were doing just that but Carolina recognized this and switched defenders

TT is a really good acquisition for Carolina. They took advantage of the Hawk's cap situation when they were in a position to make the deal, good for them. Now hopefully the Hawks can pick up a good player the same way now that they are in a position to make a similar deal.

It was in an attempt to win another cup, so yes it was. We have 3 in the decade, glad TT worked out for you i thought he'd go into a shell in the playoffs but to his credit he has his big boy pants on.
