Is he going to survive or get the boot?
- PatShart

I think he gets one more year but if no playoff series wins he's gone.

Can't see them booting him, but there are roughly 4 mil fans who'd like to see it happen.

Same result next year, and I'd say he gone.

Be interesting though, kind of sounded like he was throwing the GM under the bus in the presser last night, so you never know.

Can't F with your boss in public very often and get away with it.

DeBrincat isn’t that good defensively. He’d have to improve massively in order to earn PK duties, IMO.
- AEL_Fox

Yep. And do you want ADB blocking a lot of shots. I don't. I think getting in the shooting lane is important on the PK.

You obviously haven't been listening to Canadian sports talk, or reading Leafs message boards

It looks like Ken Holland had a better appreciation for what Babcock could, and couldn’t do afterall.

Offer Sheet Marner, he's the best of the group.

No one would bail out Stan when he was up against it, can't see anyone bailing out the leafs.

In addition to the compensation - likely four 1st round picks - the cap hit is the total value of the contract divided by five years. So, a $11M deal for 7 years would have a cap hit of $77M/5 = $15.4.

He can throw Dubas under the bus and get away with it, Shanahan is a different story.

No one's winning a Cup in Toronto until they overall that defense group. Which, as Stan could tell you, is not something that can be done easily at all, and certainly not quickly.

Awfully quiet around here. Being around Leaf fans is similar to reading True Grit tell the world Tampa was unbeatable then is no where to be found after they get swept out. The way my coworkers talked I thought the Leafs were the next Oilers/Islanders/Canadiens/Blackhawks dynasty combined! Oh I did win $60 CDN which when converted to to USD$ may get me a beer and an order of chicken wings.

It's hilarious watching Leaf Nation self distruct with fingers pointing the blame and everone getting pushed under oncoming buses. Nylander, Gardiner, Babcock, Dubas, Kadri, Carlton the Bear and the Zamboni driver.

Oh well I shouldn't gloat, when the Hawks were winning three cups some Hawk fans were doing the same thing pointing the finger of blame everywhere for all kinds of non existant problems. At least Leaf fans have a reason to be upset.

I don’t think any single player is worth that to an organization?

Probably although both of their values have declined. Also Dubas could be in the Bowman predicament that teams know he has to dump salary and will be low balling the return.
- LAHawk

Possible don t want either kadri is a head case nylander while highly skill is soft plus what the hawks have give up? I be looking at tampa pitt Calgary vegas and winnipeg let Toronto live in cap hell oh by the way where was taveras the series a ghost one goal and paying that much ha ha

DeBrincat could be or already is a volume goal scorer like Brett Hull. How much would Hull in his prime be making in today’s dollars? That may help conceptualize a range for DeBrincat.
- AEL_Fox

ADB scored 76 points last year, which is great. Bret Hull scored more than 76 points 10 times in his career. Career high of 86 goals and 139 points. More than a point per game 8 times.

ADB is a great scorer and fine player. But only 2 years under his belt and he will only be an RFA after next year. He will get a much bigger contract in his RFA year, but not full value. After that look out.

Yeah, Toews and Kane did I think 5yrs at 6mil per...but they had a Cup on their resume....ROY Conn Smythe, really good playoff numbers/stats.

Stome has had 3/4 of a good season and Debrincat has put up points/goals...but both have 0 playoff appearances/points (not their fault, but wont help the cause either if they get max deals)

- PatShart

Their deals were 5X 6.3 AAV

Kadri... maybe, just maybe... could be salvageable going to another team with a strong veteran presence in the locker room. But given the current roster of the Leafs, I think he’s always going to be a problem.

Players...mayyyyybe

Agents and the NHLPA...probably wont like/take that at all

- PatShart

If the players association would do that shouldn’t they have said no to Stamkos and others taking less and even stones allegedly agreed too contract with vegas? If a player is worth say 12 m he shouldn’t sign for any less then that because he is in a tax friendly state which allows him the same take home pay.

Why do you think a player who has been suspended 5 or 6 times and twice in successive years for losing his poop for no reason is salvageable?

He will survive for another year. His assistants may not though. You should have seen his presser last night. He blamed everyone but himself.

Depends on the agent and the player and their relationship. Some players dictate, sometimes agents dictate.

Why would a really good player sign a below-market deal that will still leave them under team control at the end?

Because he’s young and like everyone has the chance to mature as a player/person. Also, I don’t believe he’s played on a team where he truly respected the veterans he’s played with and had them to help guide him in channeling his energy productively.

Perhaps not a perfect example, but E. Kane seems to be better out in SJ with a more veteran leadership group. He’s still chirping and being an agitator - but he isn’t hurting his team.

I think it’s possible for some team to pick him up under the right circumstances and channel his instincts more productively.
