You’re saying that star players could be available, pick out one team that could benefit, and then don’t even go into detail (yes, detail - shocker!) of why it would benefit both teams in one way or another. This is garbage. Half the people reading this blog could’ve done better

Also, JT, I don’t mean for this to sound like I’m attacking you but I’m disappointed a better effort wasn’t put forward

No to trade Crosby or Malkin. I’d consider trading Letang or Kessel if the return is awesome but it won’t happen.

Yes to trading Hörnqvist, Jacko or Guds contract.

I thought this was written by RW. Got done reading and was confused by the lack of depth and/or point of this article. I figured I’d post a clever comment to to mock said deficiencies. I then saw JT at the top of the comment board and went, “ohhh...ok, I get it.”

I’m fairly certain that GMJR will double down on the stupid this offseason and trade Kessel to Colorado for Nikita Zadorov.

Because push-back, or something.

The only possible way a teams takes one of those contracts, is If they feel they need that one piece or two to put them over the top, and that’s not happening til trade deadline day. No one is building around those players at their age! It’s financial suicide in the cap era.

The Pens will now pay the price for winning Lord Stanley’s Cup. Any GM who trades for one of the three you mentioned, as Crosby will finish his career there, should be shot!

2008/09, 2015/16 and 2016/17 Cups I’d say it is damn Fn worth it. Crosby and Malkin should retire as Penguins.

Crosby and Malkin should be untouchable per ownership, Letang and Kessel should require approval per ownership. There is likely no return even remotely acceptable for trading any of these players (especially from the yotes). Barring some serious wheeling and dealing from JR, which he is capable of, I’d be just as disappointed in ownership if any of these players were moved.

He’s already said he wants to get faster and that current cup winners may be too complacent. That definitely points to Horny, Maatta, Rust and maybe guys like Phil, Geno, and Schultz. I don’t think Crosby or Letang go anywhere for obvious reasons

Been saying Kessel to the Yotes and Malkin to the Panthers for a while now. Hope it happens.

Also, completely wrong take on teams wanting them at the deadline... I think there are a lot of teams on the playoff cusp that would want a kessel or Malkin for a full year to help them get into the playoffs.

Yes, and I bet you he would accept a trade to Arizona. He worked well with Tochett, small market and good weather/golf.

Odd as it sounds, I could see it. I think Pens fans care more about him finishing his career a Pen than he does. Maybe he really does want to "be the man" somewhere?

I wont believe it until I see it a player choosing to waive a NTC or NMC to go to Arizona

the only reason Rangers were able to send Stepan there was because they traded him on June 23rd 2017 and his full NTC was kicking in on July 1st 2017. Got it in just in time.

The only way I would accept "low" return on Malkin or Kessel is if the other team takes on an horrible contract (cough-johnson-cough). Then again, with Malkin, were talking about a guy who had 98 points a year ago, he is not done by any means. Kessel has a good contract and had his best year a year ago, he is durable and will bounce back (still had 82 points this year). They both need a good D to give him the puck, something that has been lacking this year.

Unless you can get a good puck-moving D in return, there is not point in trading Letang. The pens need:
a) more good puck moving defensemen.
b) good propects. All these players could benefit from new blood.

Honestly Johnson andHornqvist have to go. You don’t even have to replace them. Maatta and Wilson are already here.

Johnson yes, Hornquist not a chance.

Hornquist is maybe overpaid by a Mil but his impact is massively underrated. Rough year with concussions but I want him to retire a Penguin.

Aww its James tanner acting like he knows anything about hockey again. Cute story bro.
So what names do you suggest would go back to Pittsburgh? You want the coyote to give up their early 20s future stars for some dying aged star like Malkin or letang?
You have always been a joke to the hockey world and here you are again today living up to the hype of "hockeys idiot blogger"

Congrats. You take the reward again this season

There was something off about the Pens all season. At first I was willing to chalk it up to a lot of new pieces in the room, and maybe they needed some time to gel. Get the chemistry going and find an identity.
I don't think some of GMJR's acquisitions helped at all in this regard, and then it appeared that coach and gm weren't even close to being on the same page with player usage (going all the way back to Reaves).
Then the solid stretch in March with Letang (and Malkin to some extent) out and how well the Pens played as a team. I was actually chalking it up more to chemistry finally taking hold and less about 71 and 58's missteps. Ugh, then the Isles series happened.
In the ultimate team sport, I think it's actually less about any one guy or guys, and more about team chemistry, or lack of. Maybe this group of superstars has hit a wall, as IMHO, this season was FAR worse than the last one.
Sid is untouchable. Beyond him, is it really a stretch to explore what value the remainder of the core has, in order to change the chemistry, and maybe even continue to get younger and faster, ala McCann and Bjug? I think not.
Again, my core moving forward is Sid, Jake, Phil, Shultz, dumo and Murray. Still a pretty darned formidable group.
