Toronto needs Defense! We have a couple gently used, possibly somewhat overpaid defesnemen available that would look great in any other uniform next season.

Which defensemen would you trade? What would you seek in return?

Ellis and PK. Ellis is too small, was thrown around by Dallas. PK is PK. I think we'd be fine with Ek, Josi, Fabbro and finding a good young D either in Milwaukee or elsewhere.

Toronto is the obvious trade partner because they need D. If we dump Turris (we should), we'd need a center. Kadri has been mentioned. That series turned on his suspension, so there's the head issue, but there's no doubt that the guy can play when he's there. There are a few others there that have lost favor with fans (Nylander comes to mind), so who knows.

We also need a top 6 scorer or ten. That may be for free agency rather than a trade, there seem to be a good crop this year, but salary cap may be an issue.

We need to re-sign Grimaldi and find guys like him, huge heart, fast and not afraid to shoot.

Unless Poile's gone completely incompetent, Ellis will be on the market this off season. I'd be at least listening to offers for Subban, but I'm not convinced Poile really wants to trade him just yet. He seems high on the guy, but I'd be shopping him. He loved Shea too, but shipped him off when the time was right. Subban is much more valuable than Ellis right now, whose probably murdered a lot of his market value with his performance this year. I won't get into specifics but the Preds need serious help up front, probably a couple of guys, and they can't do that unless they unload at least one of those d-men to clear up the cap space. If it's Subban, with his contract, the Preds would probably have to have money coming back to make the deal work. If it's Ellis, Poile could probably get away with prospects or picks if only to clear cap space to sign a free agent. It really is a complicated process... I'm glad I don't have Poile's job.

Toronto would be insane to do this, but I'm all for it! I'm not all that familiar with Dubas, but maybe he has a screw loose or two.

I think Toronto makes way more sense. Not for Tavares mind you, but I'm sure they can make a deal.

Toronto does not have the cap space I believe. Unless they unload several players.

Eh, it's hard to trust anything Ek says. If I were Poile I'd be listening to anybody who might be interested in Subban. I'm not sure what Montreal could offer that would make sending P.K. back worth while. Toronto does make the most sense, each team has what the other really needs. Both teams are up against the cap though, so money would have to go both ways.

Why is everyone antiPK??? I love the guy, hes great for Nashville, unless he wants to be moved, I say NO (frank)ING WAY. Keep him, get rid of Turris, Ellis and Ekholm...
The whole team let the city down this year, not just Pekka or PK

P.K. is the only one with any value right now, that's why his name is out there. Nobody wants players that suck, especially ones that just signed fat lengthy contracts. Poile could probably convince someone that Ellis just had a bad year and con them into taking him, but Eliis is going to be a hard sell with that contract. I really don't know how the rest of the league views his value right now. Turris is likely going to be our problem for at least another season until he can prove he's not complete garbage. I do wonder about the economics involved with buying him out... It may not be feasible at this point in his contract with all that money still on it. The only way he's going to go is if he's a throw in as part of a much bigger trade, or if a team that has to get above the cap cellar will take him off our hands if Poile asks for peanuts in return. (I'd do it in a heartbeat, but you need a dance partner willing to eat that contract for the next five years) Oh, and Ekholm isn't going anywhere. I know you don't like him, and differences of opinion are fine. Poile's not going to trade a defenseman of his caliber, that he controls for the next three years with a very cap friendly contract. Maybe in a couple of years if he proves he's not going to be worth the big bucks his next contract will probably require, but not now. That would be a major overreaction to one bad playoff series.

Poile needs to do something. The last two big contracts he gave out were terrible, so he's done his part in making this mess... Now he needs to clean it up.

Turris' buyout would be a 2 million cap hit for the next ten years... Huh...
