What happened to the other blogger? Not that I think it matters. You both seem very well informed. It would be nice to hear which direction you would prefer the team go in and why

Nice job but you forgot the most important part of the puzzle - the defense. We only have three (3) top six defenseman in Schmidt, McNabb and Theodore. Of the others only Jon Merrill should play everyday. He started the year out badly but had the most improvement of any VGK player. October and November he was mired in the -12 area yet finished the year at +16, a remarkable improvement. All others are defensive liabilities and would be healthy scratches on most other teams. Trading is the way that we can acquire what is needed and of all the people you mentioned as possible signing with other teams all of them were offensive.

While Karlsson will be seeking more I feel he is well worth it as he is like Bellemare in that he plays all shifts in all situations. During the Sharks series he was obviously are stongest overall player though he didn't score enough.

I guess I am wondering too much but we need to shore up our defense and if it takes trades to get it done then so be it. I hear that Karlsson might be available once the Sharks are eliminated.

Colin Miller is a top-4 defenseman. Between him, Merrill, Schmidt, Theodore, and McNabb they are more than decent. Whomever ends up as the sixth d-man will be just fine for that spot (Holden, Schuldt, or Hauge).

Would Karlsson do a 1 year deal again to see how haula does when he comes back? I think McPhee isn't afraid to make changes or a big trade like Karlsson.

To be fair, Statsny, Stone and Patches could be your first line with no issues.

I don't think that's what he wants, but it would get him to UFA status, as he will turn 27 before the next off-season.

A player I like, and the Bill Masterson nominee, is Ryan Carpenter. He is very cap friendly, runs the 1-2-2 forecheck real well, great on defense, speedy, and good on the penalty kill. I know it’s a crowded field for forwards, but I admire his balance.

He will be serviceable for another team. I don't see the space here to retain him. Same with Pirri, they will be good elsewhere.
