Anthony Travalgia: Brad Marchand back in the limelight after punch to head
Brad Marchand will not face any supplemental discipline from the league after a punch to the head of Scott Harrington.

If Marchand gets suspended it is on reputation alone. I have seen a lot worse in the playoffs that goes un-addressed. I think he may get a call from the league but a suspension is very unlikely.

I'm torn. On the one hand, like you said, it wasn't as bad as a lot of things we've seen. One the other hand, it was totally uncalled for after the whistle on a player who was doing nothing. So do you judge it based on severity of impact or on level of class?

it's not JUST on reputation. it's on reputation, and extremely repetitive behaviour.

for a guy with no disciplinary history, there isn't even a discussion. for a guy with a well documented history of extremely questionable behaviour, he will be held to a much higher standard, and rightfully so.

Marchand is a good hockey player, no doubt, but it's very obvious that he's either unwilling, or too stupid to learn from his mistakes. for that reason alone, he should get atleast 1 game.

It's an ugly form of gamesmanship.
I like it a lot.
He needs to be more Rat like going forward.

Cassidy has got to be furious...after his tantrum in support of his guy, March goes and proves why the refs target him

A suspension would be harsh, but a fine more than appropriate. Completely letting it slide is a bad look for the league.

I like Marchands’ game, but he just doesn’t seem to learn. This is why I like the old NHL. A big bruiser from the opposing team would have grabbed him, beat the daylights out of him, and it would be over. He wouldn’t be doing this kind of stuff over and over because he would have to answer for it. Too many people like to make life more and more complicated, when it is very simple.

If this was the case, Ken Linseman would have been in 6 fights every game. I agree that the player can no longer police the game, and I don't like that. However, it's not like every single cheap shot in every game was handled by the local Bob Probert going out and destroying someone.

Fines don't mean anything to these guys. Gotta get more clever with punishments. Marchand should have to go sit through Scott's daughter's 3hr ballet recital. That'd make him think twice next time.

They just got to up the fine $$. Handing out a 10-20 grand fine is losing out on 10-20 minutes of a period pay to some of these players lol.

Maybe up it to 200 grand and it may help a little.

I really don't think the NHLPA would go for that...

The punch wasn't terrible, just dirty. These things backfire too sometimes. Remember when Alfie blasted the puck at Niedermayer in the SCF?

Anthony Travalgia: Brad Marchand back in the limelight after punch to head
Brad Marchand will be hearing from the league after a punch to the head of Scott Harrington.

- Anthony Travalgia

Gotta hand it to the Bruins...they can lick (Marchand), sucker punch (Chara & Marchand), slew foot (McAvoy on Marner) and cross-check to the face (Marchand again) without any NHL "Player Safety" consequences. Good deal.

I’d rather he rabbit punched someone like the Sedins. This was dumb.

It is pretty harmless. What I don’t like about it is now Marchand has a target from the refs. Just like game 2, he was a target and gets a bush league cross checking call at intermission.

Special Teams have been the difference in this series and the refs aren’t helping. Nice call on the trips last night. Panarin and Anderson both fall on their own and Bruins get whistled for trips. Be better officials!

Marchand is a more talented Matt Cooke. It doesn't deserve a suspension, but sooner or later it will catch up to him. Cooke cleaned up his act somewhat later in his career but the stigma never allowed his reputation to recover. I was hoping Marchand was trying to reform his reputation but apparently not. I like having pests in hockey. It makes the games more entertaining. You can be a pest in hockey without being extremely dirty.
