Good job Matt!
No one thought Q would go to the Panthers, so let's keep our fingers crossed for Bob and Panarin.

You’re absolutely right, Jimbo!
Gotta keep the fingers crossed and see what happens.

can you see Florida having any interest in a Trouba trade? we know he doesn't wish to sign long term in Winnipeg, lives in Fort Lauderdale all off season where his fiancé is a doctor. he is coming off 50 point season and is a top pairing Right shot D. |

That would be an awesome pickup and serious piece on the backend.
Funny enough, the guys referenced from the Talkin’ Hockey podcast, had a discussion about moving Trouba (in episode 3).
I think he’d be awesome to get, but isn’t his contract pretty big? Maybe WINN retains some salary? What goes the other way?
According to the Talkin’ Hockey guys, the Jets could possibly use a 2L center. |

His contract is up...his contract is definitely going to be pretty big. |

Ahhh...that’s right.
Good call - He’ll def be looking for that big/max contract. |

No thanks Malkin. Bobvrosky is a must get. I would take Trouba over Panarin. With both being free agents someone's probable gotta go for cap reasons. Most likely on the back end. Mathisson would be the logical one based on age and potential. |

Agreed on Bob and I would also take Trouba over Bread Man. I think the top lines are OK. Panarin feels more like a luxury between him and Bob.
What would you guys think about bringing in an older, veteran defenseman like Hainsey, Seabrook or Keith? It would only work if the Leafs or Hawks ate a good portion of the salary, but I think either of these three would give the blueline some solid leadership. |

something like Trouba for Trocheck, maybe there are other pieces
Trouba for Matheson and a prospect
Trouba for Borgmen plus
or whats Florida's take on Eqblad, did he have a down year? is he well liked? could we see a Trouba for Eqblad like we did with the Subban for Weber deal?
I think trouba will want around 7.5 - 8.5 on a long term deal, |

I think it's more likely than not that Panarin and Bobrovsky are a package deal -- and Panarin is the one who pulls Bob to Florida. |

Interesting take, what makes you think that Jimbo?
I don't really care where Panarin signs, just as long as he keeps putting out videos of him and his dog doing stickhandling drills |

Not too shabby of a choice.
I just feel they could use an older guy to anchor them (not sure Yandle is that guy) and a solid, stay-at-home / defensive mind back there.
It wouldn't happen, but I would love to get Manson from Anaheim. Love his game.

Interestingly enough... EK just posted an article on the front page discussing Winnipeg being in a tough spot with having to resign/make a decision about Tyler Meyers and Trouba.
I didn't realize Myers was an UFA this summer...that would be a very nice pick up! |

Panarin and Bob share the same agent, after Panarin switched a few months back. Apparently, they are close friends in Columbus.
Panarin has a great relationship with Q and never wanted to leave Chicago. Also, apparently Panarin and Dadanov not only played on the same line in Russia but grew up together. Panarin owns a condo in Miami Beach too.

The Jets trading Trouba to Florida could be good for both teams. Its just that the Jets would want a better package than one for one trades for Trocheck, Matheson or Borgstrom. |

Ahhh...I forgot about the agent switch. Good call.
Yes, he loved his time in Chicago. I'm sure Q wouldn't mind having his talent on the roster, either. Haha. |

I don't know a ton about him, but I've always thought he played well when I see him.
Is there some glaring flaws/issues to his game? |

You're probably right. I feel like Tippet (Florida's high prospect) would probably have to be involved. |

he is a very good third pair D when playing against the other teams bottom 6. He struggles when he is forced to play against stiffer competition. This will be a classic case of someone over paying for a UFA to out bid others because a lack of Free Agents out there. he should make 3-4 million per year tops but will probably get 5-6 and 2-3 more years than he should.

Would any of these be fair; or do you see as too much?
trocheck and a 2nd
Borgman and Tippet
Matheson and Tippet |

Since we don't see him play on a regular basis, it's always nice to get some fan insider info. |

Matheson and Tippet - Ross77
It's a good question and I think a lot hinges on Q and the system/style he's going to want to run and have the guys execute...
Trocheck is a great player/spark for this team and a fan favorite.
I think you're referring to Borgstrom. That's an interesting one because his game reminds me a lot of Teravinen's (when on the Hawks) and TT struggled under Q's scheme - even though his time in Chicago was doomed from the start because of the front office/marketing team (I elaborated on some of this in a previous blog). But this is a guy I'm really curious as to whether Q sees him as part of the plan or not.
Matheson is another guy I'm really curious about with Q now in town. He was some incredible skating ability and is the new-age style defenseman (who tend to want to be more of a forward), and has some pretty serious turnover issues. I'm wondering if Q sees him as fitting his system and willing to take put in the work/mold him. Q tends to not be in favor of puck-moving guys and I think the Panthers have too many on the blueline with this mentality.
Tippet probably makes sense packaged with one of those two guys if you're getting back a legit blueliner like Trouba coming off the season he put together; but I really don't know what they look for, etc., when it comes to trades. I can only speculate as a fan. Haha. |
