First off, Jimmy Howard is 100% an NHL caliber starting goaltender. Doesn’t help we have the worst defense in the league.

Secondly, (frank) you.

Third, Holland may be a decent choice for you guys. The last couple years he’s taken a back seat to signing poop players too much. Traded players who didn’t really work out and such. He has a good eye for talent (shut up) and hope you guys get Tyler Wright from our office too.

I wouldn't really care what happens to the oilers except they are wasting too much top talent that could provide entertainment in a better organization...

At first it seemed like a bad move considering the Oilers' past etc but Holland might be the guy. His UFA signings have been questionable lately but I think you have to consider they're in a rebuild and it seemed like those players were signed so that their prospects could spend more time developing. One of the reasons anyways. If I were an Oilers fan I'd think that would be a positive thing that Holland can bring, the idea of patience and proper development.

Ken Holland would still carry a lot of weight and if he's given full authority, I can see him being able to clean house and overturn much of the old guard. If he can replace those spots with smart forward thinking people, that could be very good for the Oilers.

This is my favorite part, and about as laughable as you saying you are unbiased.

Exactly... Does anyone remember when Dan Tencer was writing the oilers’ blog? At least he was tied into the team via CHED.

How close are you to the team? Did Bob approach you for the job, because all the trade proposals and roster choices you’d make would have left the team in a better spot?!? Of course!

Everyone wants the team to go off the beaten path, find the “next big thing”. Remember when good ol’ MacT did that with Dallas Eakins? Remember what a great move that was?!? Would you hand complete control over to someone with no experience? No.

By the sounds of this Holland gets to make any move possible, basically the ability to completely clean house. Which is something we all think is needed.

If autonomy wasn't being offered to the other candidates, then I am happy it is being offered to the guy being hired. Too bad that guys is Ken (frank)ing Holland.

However, not being hired by the Oilers does extend Mark Hunter's career by decades, so everybody wins.....except for Edmonton, like always.

Yeah like Howard is a solid starter. He’s no koskinen though... lol

Holland has an eye for talent. He is good at putting the finishing touches on a team. He’s not so good at cap management. And he almost never trades. So if you have a good team with decent shape cap wise he can for sure lead you over the top. Edmonton? I don’t know about that

I like his response of not being on social media. Everyone including this blog already has him being run out of town and he hasnt even landed here yet. Cant we just let the man do the job give him time. He has an incredible resume. Every team has ugly contracts some you are forced to sign cause of ownership pressure.

So mccrimmon is the man...for what exactly, building a team from a stacked expansion draft. Yzerman has great players taken with top picks, I dont see any players from later rounds kicking in the door. Yzerman learned his trade from holland but we will just forget that and that holland is only like 8 years older than yzerman. Crap on chiarelli for trades if you want but he and his staff at least stocked our fsrm system with some great young players.

Are there actually flames fans bashing this move? Like why other than it helps to continue to deflect the beat down the avs gave you. Have you noticed mckinnon and the avs arent machines after all they are human and ya beatable..just not by sawt johhny and the flames defence.

Actually the better move would be to trade Pulujarvi to Washingotn for Burakovsky.

... who were the Oilers supposed to get that has half of this guy's qualifications?

And do people realize that Detroit has a 15M cap hit on perma-injured/retired players?

So they have veteran contracts on veteran players who are overpaid what... 3-4M collectively? Yet they perpetuate a professional atmosphere there. And who else are they going to pay? Charge up their roster with a free agent in a half rebuild where they can go in and out of the margins for ten years?

And who in the history of GMing has ever steered a team through a rebuild without having bad years? Even HE got nailed, and that's saying something.

If I was an Oilers fan, I'd have been stoked. You can't pass off good looking for perfect and ending up with bad. This guy at least is one of the game's true professionals.

And nepotism? Really? The whole argument nepotism hinges on is the lack of qualifications from those hired. I'm afraid Holland's resume is pretty good.

But you know, old hats like Lou Lamoriello can't succeed anymore... oh... wait...

I can't see Tippett working under the micro managing ego maniac Holland. Holland likes being the head coach too. Telling the coach which players to play and how much ice time they should get. Holland will likely want another puppet like Blashill working under him. Babcock wouldn't knuckle under. Babs said before he left for Toronto "I get one vote he gets 2." Giving Holland complete autonomy is comparable to giving a drug addict the keys to the pharmacy. I've watched how this guy operates for over 20 years. He's a snake oil salesman.
