Mike Augello: Leafs Q & A - May 12th Edition

While I agree that moving Marleau would have lousy optics as far as Auston and Mitch are concerned, it might be one of the best short term ways the Leafs could improve their salary situaton. Best hope is Jumbo Joe wins a cup, retires and San Jose comes calling to pick up Marleau. Even if Leafs eat half that contract, its worth moving him out. Kadri has much more trade value than Willie at this point so moving him out after submarining the Leafs two straight years makes perfect sense.

I'm on the fence with this. Who'd be the 3rd line center for the Leafs. Unless the Leafs trade for another center.

To me Nylander isn't that guy.

The Leafs need Dman with Dermott out for at least 6 months.

That's the big problem they have right now. Trading Kadri gives them enough cap space to maybe keep everyone else, but then Kadri is replaced by a crappier player on the cheap. And they needed d before the injuries, more so now.

Not even Turris could miss the net on that one.

In business when a manager (frank)s up badly, hopefully you talk about it, learn your lesson and move on. He makes the same mistake again and its pink slip time. Same applies to Kadri. Move him out now, he's worth something, his value will be significantly less if he has another 16 goal seasson - especially if he is on the #1 power play as he was all year. He sh!t the bed big-time this year. Move him out, get either a veteran centre or a tougher centre to replace him with. He truly sucked ass this year. No first rounder at the draft - good opportunity to get one.

3rd line Center:
Just trade Kadri and Nylander, and get Faksa from Dallas.
Kadri is too good for #3C and obviously didn't fit in well behind Tavares and Matthews - and Nylander can be replaced by a better fit on MAtthews' LW.

Kadri for Faksa +
Nylander + for Keller.

with those two moves, the team is more balanced, and cap issues are solved.

Exactly how good was Kadri this year? He played with decent wingers the whole season and was on the #1 pp line - result 44 pts and 16 goals. They can pick up a 3rd line centre for less money and put the money towards the blueline.

As much as you want Nylander moved, I don't see it happening unless the Leafs get a ridiculous offer. His trade value, is not likely to be lower any time in the near future than now.

He was wasted by the club not himself. He went from a two time 30 goal scorer and very effective shut down centre - how many of those are in the league? 2? To being pushed back and now out the door it would seem. He is a solid second line centre, was one of the best in the NHL. Who can they replace him that is super cheap that will even fill those stat lines?

Good to see the OHL refs are as (frank)ing ridiculous as the NHL.

Don't worry, if Carolina gains control, Boston will be given consecutive powerplays until they get the lead. At that point, the refs will put away the whistles, allowing Boston to get away with constant bullpoop, again.

Either that, or maybe a suspendable offense will be let go again, instead of 5 and a game, the Bruin player will get 2, if that.

I heard Kadri will be looking at 10 games if McAvoy jumps into someone’s head again.

20 games.

The punitive 10 games is for being a Leaf.

Guelph learned in the 2nd round how to win a series. Hope the other teams starting goalie doesn't play.

Saginaw goalie gets suspended for 5 games and Deipetro gets hurt.

He’s going to be traded. So just 10 games.
