You guys are the sweetest. As blogger for the Oilers, I feel I need to avoid controversial conversations like that, that really have no place on a hockey forum...
For no particular reason I am now going to post this gif.

1) Concerning the pick, I’m tired of waiting for roster improvements. If the pick can be moved for immediate help, or used to help remove individuals that would allow to afford roster improvements, then I’m all for moving it.
2) Concerning Jesse, I’m not high on trading him per se, but don’t consider untouchable in any respect. If a deal that makes sense comes along, then out the door he goes. - Wildschwein
For 1) that was the exact same line of reasoning that landed the Oil one Griffin Reinhart at the expense of a Matt Barzal on the eve of an expansion draft. One of those teams is finished waiting and the other is looking to mortgage their future once again. Also, the idea of packaging a top draft pick to get rid of a failed UFA signing in order to make room for another UFA signing is myopic and nauseating. Particularly on the eve of yet another expansion draft.
For 2) I also do not consider JP an untouchable but unless someone wants to overpay and do the Oil a big favor then it makes no sense to sell him at his lowest value. |

I don’t entirely agree, but the bolded is really what it comes down to
Unless you’re dealing him in a package and getting a proven scorer back, it’s pretty much sink or swim with him at this point. Sorta yakupovish situation at this point.
Not gonna get the value back in a deal. Keep and hope - HB77
If he is still waiver exempt he should spend a great deal of time in the AHL next season. |

For your second point....Holland has a great history with European players and I would like to see what he can do to save the Puju experiment

I would think JP has value... If Cliff Pu could land Skinner I would think JP could land someone of similar ilk as part of a package. - Reveen.
I would not want to send JP, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 6th for one year of Jeff Skinner. |

Just because an action was performed incorrectly, doesn’t automatically make such an action incorrect.
If your missus made you a poopty sandwich, would you then decide to never eat another sandwich?
This organization can gain by moving the pick, either for help now or to free up money for help later. Provided that the individuals in charge have the intelligence/wherewithal to do so of course. There in lies the rub.

He is an RFA this summer so doesn’t that mean he would have to clear waivers? Or is there a work around? If so he should spend all of next year with the Condors

If it was the same missus, she was in the same mindset, she had the same motivations and she had the same basic ingredients I would not eat the sandwich as it would likely be the same poop. |

Someone else (maybe Maxbone) will have to jump in here as I've forgotten how the waiver exemptions work.
I think it might depend on whether he signs a two-way or one-way deal in his next contract but I was hoping he could sign a cheap one-way and maintain exemption for another season due to age/inexperience or some poop.
The fact he is an RFA and we are talking about him needing a full season in the AHL is just another alarm that burning his first ELC year was a big mistake and that this whole paradigm of managing from a position of frantic urgency and impatience is akin to mortgaging your future for instant gratification. |

This is entirely fair.
So. Holland = Chiarelli in your opinion, or are referring to the organization in general? |

So the Oilers motto over the last 10 or so seasons....expect them to produce right away then take zero blame when it goes to hell....as far as Puju goes I also wonder if he wants to remain here....it’s been a tough go for him....a lot of it is on management but some blame goes to him as well....especially (if it’s true that is) if he did decline to be sent down which is an alarm on it’s own if true

I'm more-so referring to the organization in general. In fact I'm not even sure if the Griffin trade was more a MacT or a Chiarelli thing (or both) and it's pretty inconsequential for me to open that can of worms again anyways unless I am trying to summon the ghosts of Jero and Iggy. |

Yeah great motto, really continues to pay dividends... for every other team in the league.
I don't know about any of those rumors but JP should have never been courted to think he had any say in the matter. In hindsight he probably should have stayed in Finland for one more year, then spent a full year in the NHL and then see where he is at the start of year 3. Instead the strategy is rush him and let him know how entitled he is, be disappointed, bounce him around with no consistency for 3 years and then try to run him out of town without really having a clue where he is or where he could be given some patience and a clear/consistent development path. |

Understood.
Well, here’s hoping Holland’s “autonomy” isn’t just a ruse to mollify the Oiler masses. Really all we the fans can do at this point. |
