This statement will be the deciding factor, with Georgia and Florida poised to lift restrictions (heavily republican) and the possibility of other republican states to follow suit, Trumps supporters may be down substantially.
- Makita

the virus affects the elderly so if florida turns badly due to the republican governor opening things up (with the implicit approval of trump), they'll turn democrat.

and then it's game over for trump.

ohio is another electoral rich state to keep an eye on. while the governor is a republican, he's been very strict (and quite good) about the virus. he's also been surprisingly frank about trump's words/action plan. will this affect the voters? it was a comfortable win for trump in 2016 but it's something to keep an eye on.

the funny thing about american politics is that the majority of states don't really need to vote. it really will come down to michigan, penn and florida. how those go will determine the election. the rest are already pretty much decided unless there's a blue or red wave that leads to a landslide.

You read that wrong or I didn't explain it very well, "He might not get the majority of the people again" means he probably won't get the majority of the people, just like last time....at least it was suppose to.

Prices will go up, I was talking in the future, as in a few months from now. June contracts for oil are trading at around $22 and July is around $27 dollars. So I expect it to go up, however, I'm happy with fuel prices.

I did read it wrong. My apologies.

Gas will recover eventually but there's more poop to come before it recovers. I think it's funny that all the conservative talking heads out there are desperate to protect their investment portfolios and claiming this gas war is really bad for everyone.

I consider myself a fiscal conservative (not social!) and I'm loving every minute of it. Watching the Russian and American oligarchs squirm makes my day.

America was winning the war with their shale oil, as long as oil stayed around $30 but down at these prices they're getting hammer and that's why you're seeing the lobbyist pressuring Trump to get the other majors to make a deal.

Especially if mass amounts of people start dying from pure stupidity by opening up those states, they'll need someone to blame and Trump is an easy target.

Considering he wants everything open yes he's an easy target.

"i never said to open things up. in fact, i said that this pandemic could get a lot worse. other people were saying open things up. it wasn't my choice. i would have had everything on lockdown for a lot longer. it's just nasty of you to try to blame me when i was the only one looking out for the states by telling them to be cautious about opening things up."

Dude, the guy is scary. What scares me more is how much support he gets.

How can he fire people at will, deny oversight, get rid of basically anybody that opposes him.

My sister lives there with her family. She is the director for Hospice Calgary. I keep telling her to move the family to the island before their house is worth less than $50,000. The obsession with oil is going to bankrupt them in the next 5 years.

Good advice.

This is probably an antiquated story but Nova Scotia went through it twice with coal production and fisheries. They refused to give up on those two industries even though the writing was on the wall. Dumped huge money into both to keep it going but it was a dead end.

They still feel the repercussions of those decisions today. Slow to evolve and you’re left behind.

Don’t let this downturn, like many other downturns, fool you. We are many many years away from being free of oil. I’ll look it up but I believe, right or wrong as I don’t have a horse in the race anymore, that global oil consumption continues to climb and will do so for the foreseeable future despite the industry challenges that a global pandemic is giving it.

I'm not well versed in the sector but just did a cursory look. Seems like some are saying that the global demand for oil will peak/plateau around 2030.

https://www.worldoil.com/...ill-level-off-around-2030
Global oil demand will hit a plateau around 2030... the International Energy Agency predicts.

“Oil demand plateaus post-2030,” said Fatih Birol, executive director of the Paris-based agency, which advises most major economies. “Demand growth is robust to 2025, but growth slows to a crawl thereafter.”

https://www.ourenergypoli..._lowres-single_3108_3.pdf
We forecast energy demand to flatten, mainly due to increased efficiencies in the use of energy, after 2030.

https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-2020
Global oil demand will grow by 5.7 mb/d over the 2019-25 period at an average annual rate of 950 kb/d.
Oil demand growth slows because demand for diesel and gasoline nears a plateau as new efficiency standards are applied to internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles hit the market.

https://www.bloomberg.com...power-seen-lacking-sizzle
A growing body of research is painting a bearish picture for oil beyond the next 20 years, as more electric vehicles hit roads across the globe and engines become more efficient. Rapid adoption could mean demand peaks by the 2030s, according to Bank of America and BP Plc

https://www.forbes.com/si...-overstated/#62c8ca559b65
A more realistic assessment from Shell Oil is that oil demand continues to grow over the next 20 years, a view shared by rival BP and energy consultants like Wood Mackenzie.

Notwithstanding my last post, I think a better way to look at it may be within this article:

https://www.bp.com/en/glo...-long-run-oil-prices.html
the point at which oil demand is likely to peak is very uncertain and depends on many assumptions;
even once oil demand has peaked, consumption is unlikely to fall very sharply – the world is likely to consume significant amounts of oil for many years to come.

I would love if we as a human race could eliminate the need for plastics, it’s singlehandedly destroying our oceans, it’s sad and disgusting at the same time.

you're so right.

but it's the consumerist world we've become. efficiency meaning cheap products dictates our choices and plastic is so cheap that it's so difficult to wean ourselves off of it.

Used to be he ties the best flies. Now its the best weed. So weird.

*sigh*

Obviously it's really important to him that he feels that he "wins" on here... that he needs other people who validate his position. It must of been a huge shock when ASL told him to GFY.

His life must be so empty and miserable.
