It just goes against everything we’ve done these last few years. Name the last big FA signing that’s worked out for us. I bet if you looked at it league wide about 70-80% of them are regretted after 2 years.

You can’t build a team like that ugh (then you’ll never ever sign a FA again) and you also can’t have a whole team of 18 through 25 yr olds. As currently constituted THEY DONT HAVE A LEADER. Hank is it, but he’s gone in two years. Say what you want about EK, skills, defense, etc but please give him the leadership factor. What he’s done in the past, and right now, tells me all I need to know about that.

Zdeno Chara is 42 for (frank)s sake, sometimes a player is just able to overcome things, like their age

There’s plenty of examples of a young team doing well. The first good Chicago teams all really grew up together. Sure, they got Hossa and a couple other older complimentary pieces, but Kane, Towes, Keith, etc were all young. Our last good Ranger teams all had a core with a lot of mid 20s players. The current Boston team features Mcavoy, Pasternak, etc. even the defending champs while having Ovechkin won in no small part due to younger guys as Kunetsov, Orlov, etc.

I understand you don’t want Zib as captain, but him being a relative youngster doesn’t effect that. If Kakko/Hughes bursts on the scene they could be one of the leaders from day 1. This whole sign an older guy to be leader is one of the biggest myths in sports. Mess was a great leader not just because of how vocal he was, but because he was one of the top 10 players in NHL history.

Leadership was a huge problem during the last era, I’m going to lose my mind if they don’t address that

I want EK as the captain of my upcoming team

I really don't think there is a comparible blog on this site, most of the blogs have maybe 100 or 200 comments for 30 teams its the off season we just go and go.

The best part is that if they somehow managed to sign them both that it would be an identical outcome to what Minnesota is now.

I’d take Point over Karlsson

Imagine adding Kakko, Panarin, Point, Kravtsov, Fox and Shesty. Ohhhh baby
