$9.16 for 8 years would be great and Marner gets his vanity number.
- GreatGigInTheSky

if its under 10, thats a good number and looks good on Marner for taking a team friendly deal, even though its fmv

one on the sheet I find low is Duchene, I would think he gets more than 6.9 as a UFA

We got Sean Durzi with the 52nd pick last year, maybe with the 53rd pick we can draft a defenseman again and immediately trade him to another team for Jake Muzzin 2.0?
- PatC80

I do hope the Leafs somehow get one of the 3 guys I named, but I know the first 2 are unlikely.

As long as it's 8 years, I agree.

Yeah, I thought Duchene was low on the list. I also think Johnsson was high.

Anders Lee seems high, too.

I expect Duchene to get 7 years 8M per.

What I want to happen:

Trade: Nylander, Brown, Marleau, Johnsson, Sparks, Gauthier. Bring in a ratty top 6 winger, and a 4rhd. Sign Marner for 10.5mil.

What’s likely to happen:

Not much. Gards walks but that’s about it. Hainsey signs a 1 year and they get Kappy done, but Johnsson probably gets moved for a conditional pick. Marner I could see sitting out part way through camp, but starts on time.

I don't think Marner will sit.
And I think Leafs have no other options to make quite a few moves to
a/fit under salary cap (eventually)
b/be more competitive - still with tampa and boston in division, and some teams in division might be better this year (florida? montreal?)

Im surprised youd want willie traded.
After dubi got horrible term while overpaying on the matthews deal, i hope he gets a team friendly deal with marner. Well friendlier deal. Longer than 5 years at under 10 per .
He has to be signed by july 1st, it cant go deep into the summer

I think if the 2018/19 NHL season has taught us anything, it would be that it’s foolish to make any assumptions for the standings and playoffs. Montreal will suck. Florida will still suck. Buffalo and Ottawa will suck. I’m not worried about a stiffer Atlantic division, the Leafs sputtered a lot this year, so they better (frank)ing set the franchise record next year in points or it been a disappointing season.

So you say we shouldn't make any foolish assumptions for next year base off of this year. Understandable.
But then you say buff, mont and ott will still suck?
I could see the east being really tough next year.
Or not.

I want him gone for these reasons in this order.

1. Team culture
2. Cap
3. Soft

Yeah, I know he’s good so you don’t have to remind me.

I don’t mind the Matthews deal tbh, it’s the new precedent in the NHL, shorter contracts and getting paid earlier. It’ll make for some exciting trades while players are in their prime ( 🌵 to coyotes?)

Marners not taking a sweetheart deal, and neither would you or I, so we can nix that thought.

Right?

Like, I know they’ll suck, but I also know none of us know sh!t.

Buffalo I could actually see being good. New coach, start the year off fresh, not guys bailing calling the culture a disaster. Eichel is really good, and I think Alex Nylander might be a bit of a sniper.. Dahlin is a year older too.

IIHF worlds idea,

For one year, allow all the Canadians who can’t make team Canada play for whatever country thier last name is from.

Then market the poop out of it in places like Ireland, Scotland, Italy, or even France.

Enough of these former USSR states that never win.

It would help grow the game..

I would love to watch Ireland vs Britain, have 3-4 goons on Ireland form county Cork. Then have a world-wise tourney with each country playing half the games on home ice. I would watch that if they actually did it.

You’re right..

I just can’t get enough of Latvia, Belarus, Kazakhstan... super exciting stuff. Same poopty run-down countries scratching together a roster hoping Canada doesn’t beat them 10-0..

so you're basically saying setting up a league with the best players in the world on 31 different teams.. sounds like a good idea to me..
