What if we trade Nylander for Crosby. Leafs could use a guy like that! |

It also speaks to the Leafs' lack of a presidential development system.
We had to re-sign Shanny to big bucks because the president of the Marlies is nowhere near ready to be president of the big club.
Once again, that's on Dubas. - Atomic Wedgie
I'm not sold on Shanny's stats. People keep talking about numbers but does he pass the eye test? To me it just looks like he sits in a box at the SBA and watches hockey games. |

I did, it said Chara had a goal and 4 assists in a 7-6 loss to the Canadiens. Chara also had 17 cross-checking penalties.. My, how times have changed..

If combined AAV between Tavares + Marner + Matthews indeed is 33mln/year (which is very probable within a .5mln range) seems quite obvious that you cannot afford a lot of other highly paid FWs.
Even if Leafs would trade Marleau - that's only a 1y relief.
Better to trade Nylander, and Johnsson (if asking for more than 2.75mln AAV) and Kapanen (if asking for more than 3.25-3.5mln AAV).
Kadri potentially traded as well - 4.5mln AAV is in principle a great contract for Kadri; but not for a #3C on this Leafs team considering the cap.
Leafs have to accept that they'll probably have to downgrade on some positions in order to remain under the salary cap ceiling ánd be at least as or more competitive as this season.
More competitive still means an upgrade on D, and an upgrade on #2 goalie, and a#3C that actually kills penalties and wins defensive zone faceoffs.
FWs you keep for sure (based on quality & AAV)
1. Matthews
2. Marner
3. Tavares
4. Hyman
5. Moore
6. Kapanen (if AAV <3.5mln)
7. Johnsson (if AAV <2.75mln)
8. Brown
9. Ennis (if AAV<2.5mln)
10. Gauthier
11. Korshkov/ other Ruski / Petan / few other young AHL'ers
12. Marleau (nearly unmoveable contract)
I'd deal Nylander and Kadri, freeing up around 11mln - AAV that comes back in return.
#3C --> I'd like the Leafs to target Faksa (2.2mln AAV) from Dallas; Dallas might be interested in a deal around Kadri for Faksa +
Instead of Nylander - get a LW for Matthews' line.
First choice would be Keller from Arizona. (Nylander + (Brown/Johnsson) for Keller?).
Alternatively, Leafs could trade Nylander (+) for a defenseman from Carolina or Anaheim (Manson + ) ánd sing UFA Jeff Skinner for Nylander money, or Ferland for 3mln AAV.
Leafs have plenty of options - but Dubas has to take a bit of a risk instead of taking the 'secure path' of keeping some guys without really making a bold move, and keeping apparent holes on #2LW, top4 RHD and backup goalie.
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Keller / Skinner / Ferland - Matthews - Kapanen
Johnsson - Faksa - Moore
Marleau - Gauthier - Ruski 1 / 2
and Leafs would free up 2.2 mln from Kadri trade, and potentially another 2.something from trading Brown (he's not even in this lineup; I'd like Leafs to keep him).
Seems straightforward to trade Nylander and Kadri to address more urgent holes in the lineup.

ooooohhhh john wick
I always thought they ripped off half the plot from Red just to give Keanu an excuse to kill a small village
In fact, I'm surprised that Hollywood let it happen. Both plots can be summed up with:
Criminals kill a man's dog that he got from his late wife. The man seeks justice for his dog's death and ends up killing the people who killed his dog. |
