NHL officiating isn't bad, it's incompetent. We all know this.

The game itself was a microcosm of a lot of the things that's hampered this team throughout the season.

*Surrendering a goal on the next shift after scoring a goal.
*Their inability to close out an opponent. Blues played a near perfect third period but lacked the high level skill to finish off any one of the great scoring opportunities they had.
* Inability to hit an empty net. Jaden Schwartz should never be on the ice in an empty net situation.
* Icing the puck at the end of the game with the goal tender pulled repeatedly - as if its the game plan.

Add Petro in the Schwartz catagory of not being on the ice with an empty net. Just brutal decisions.

The little things are the big things.

It's little wonder all four of these officials missed the hand pass (but somehow were alert enough to give Mr. Hand Passer the assist on the goal).

All four of them also missed the obvious clearing of the puck over the glass by David Perron.

I checked out on the NHL years ago because they are so poorly run. This is nothing out of the ordinary.

Herein lies the problem for me. The focus is going to be on the review which is dead wrong imho. If the NHL spent 1/4 as much money on designing a better way to officiate (perhaps a different number/setup/location, etc), better training the officials to be in better position, to improve their ability to make calls, etc. as they do on technology, you wouldn't need review nearly as much.

We need less review because the correct calls are getting made, not more review to just correct more bad original calls imho.

Review always has the risk of well, we're willing to fix these screw ups but not those which is always going to end up unbalanced and is always going to be a slippery slope.

I agree with you...how about the telling the refs to actually call the game and put an end to this bifurcation of regular season vs playoff...its awful. They seem confused as to how to call the game. I have watched maybe 10-14 of these playoff games. and see obvious trips, grabs, crosschecks not called...even the DOG penalty they have blown calls.

Miss an empty net.

AP27 ices puck.

AP27 ices puck.

Hand pass missed by four officials.

Not one of these things are surprising or unusual.

Strip the C after that garbage. Was his plan to win 15 faceoffs in a row to end the game?

Consistency doesn't exist in NHL officiating unfortunately, not within a game, not from game to game, not from crew to crew, etc.

Berube nailed it correctly imho. On the one icing, he had no real play and tried to get it to land and not be an icing. On the other, a poor play was made. Regardless, you can't end up with two sharks forwards and the net and ZERO defensemen there with them.

Being a life long Hawk fan, I can't stand your team, BUT you guys got screwed big time last night. Bad enough that the Sharks shouldn't still be playing in the first place, but now your Blues have to beat the officials and the league also.

Totally sucks for you guys, but I'll be cheering for you the rest of the way. Knowing our rivalry you know how hard that is to say much less do, but "Good Luck" going forward all the way to to Finals.

This is the same Colin Campbell who questioned players’ manhood after concussions and pushed the NHL to avoid researching concussions. Screw his opinion and screw him.

Tend to agree. I've confidently felt like the Blues have been the better team over the last two games and honestly expect that they can win this series.

This team has shown a lot of resiliency to bounce back from these kind of things. San Jose still has to win two more games (and the Blues just 3) so if this costs them the series - its on the Blues.

Imagine this happening in a game six or seven where there's no recourse.

To me - the series was tied 1-1 so I look at it as a best of five, and Blues simply lost game one.

On to game 2.

Agreed. The Blues are resilient and I believe are going to come out and win this game tonight. And win big. Let's do this!
