From a Swedish guy whose opinion I trust (from another site)

He is as has been mentioned a great skater, not just top speed but excellent acceleration as well, can go full throttle both with and without the puck, pretty good puck control and beats guys by quickly changing directions with the puck on his stick, his hands are pretty good but not much of a dangler. Will for sure be on highlight reels as the recipient of big hits as he has a tendency to get blown up once in a while when going full speed and trying to move around the D.

Second in goals this season but not a great finisher tbh even if it’s gotten better, he just creates so much with his speed. Can make and take a pass but just average playmaking skills, can be creative with the puck at times though. When teams manage to slow him down he’s much less of a threat but has gotten better at the meat and potato stuff in the offensive zone, keeping play alive and so on. Good defensively, plays both on the PP and the PK. Can log big minutes and be used as a responsible defensive forward at the SHL level.

Was the last forward cut for the swedish WHC team when Landeskog said yes to play and has looked good in international play of late. I’ve almost liked him more with Tre Kronor than in the SHL.

Carl Hagelin is the most common comparison I’ve seen and it’s a pretty good one. Hagelin is stronger on the puck, more intense but I think Nygård has better hands. I’m not a massive fan but I think he could be a good bottom six option. With that kind of skating there’s always a chance you strike gold, especially if he can find his scoring touch.

As mentioned in the last thread, seems likely to be a second chance at Rieder at half the price.

lol Derek Ryan was the SHL MVP when the Canes signed him and there wasn't this much hype.

He could be cheap, adequate depth though.

Worth noting re:Tippett's (likely) impending hiring. While similarities exist between he and Hitch (emphasis on structure, thriving during trap era), they're not the same brand. Tippett is known to be loved by his players while Hitch isn't. Considering the forward talent and cap constraints he had to work with in Phoenix, no one should use his final 5 seasons there against him too much. Like McLellan, he's struggled to manifest much in the postseason but he wasn't leading a powerhouse year-after-year, either.

I think we all agree Nelson would've been a nice change of pace and that the single-minded optics of this hire aren't encouraging because of this team's history.

Got no issue with this signing.....cheap player that could do well in a 3rd line role and PK but get to work on our top 6 Kenny

I’m not buying the Tippett will limit the offence....same was said about Hitch and numerous guys had career highs....I’m not excited about it but like with Holland I’ll give Tippett a chance to fail before saying he is a failure

Agreed. I think structure is all too often confused with stifling offense when, in all likelihood, it'll contribute to a more productive bottom-6 as they're the kinds of players that usually need structure in order to score.

Will he ask for a better group defensive effort? Yes he will and as he should....this team was pure dog poop at times with coverage and effort....better defence leads to more offensive chances

I think curbing Russell's "forays" will help keep whoever he's paired with (likely Nurse) steady. That or we get him a better, more steady partner instead of trying to fix the ingrained flaws of Russell's game (GUDAAAAS).

I'd take Gudas over a whole lot of Dmen any day of the week; that guy's as close to a hidden gem as exists these days.

Surely we can find a taker for Russell....I mean if the rumoured trade between the Pens and Wild are correct then the Wild will be taking on Johnson’s contract which is worse (I think the Wild would be insane to make that deal) so there is hope for us

Seems odd to me that he'd think it was a problem considering how much trash has come out of Rutherford's mouth defending Johnson and his contract. Wouldn't surprise me if the Pens added Zucker; they seem to know what they like in forwards and Zucker has a lot to like.

His play has seen a pretty steady drop-off of late, but if the Oilers could find a way to swap one of their Dmen for Niskanen without there being too much of a difference in cap, I think that'd be worthy of exploration.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.... I don't want Zucker anywhere near this team with that contract.

I can’t see Washington taking anyone back in a deal....if they were to move Niskanen it would be to save cap.....Russell or Sekera doesn’t really provide them much cap relief

5.5 is a risk but if he gets back to that 30 goal 60 point level then it’s a steal....I’ll bet you that he gets that playing with the Pens next year

Great signing, costs nothing!
But if he doesn’t score a goal, you know who Bob is going to blame next years collapse on
