I can’t see Washington taking anyone back in a deal....if they were to move Niskanen it would be to save cap.....Russell or Sekera doesn’t really provide them much cap relief
- RatedR80

Intermediary team though. Someone gives us a low pick for Russell (cap retained) then we send some minor assets Washington for Niskanen (cap retained). We upgrade to a better fit and they get cap relief while Jensen steps up.

Russell (-1mil) to someone for a 5th
Niskanen (-1mil) for a 3rd and Bear(?)

Not sure I'd do it or the middle team, but might be a path to upgrading.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.... I don't want Zucker anywhere near this team with that contract.
- Reveen.

After that Nelson contract, 5.5 seems pretty good for an ~50 point, consistent outscoring winger, but we clearly don't agree on him.

Great signing, costs nothing!
But if he doesn’t score a goal, you know who Bob is going to blame next years collapse on

I joke! You guys finally got something to get excited about.
Max bone, Phillips> Yamo, and taller!

I blame Toby Rieder for Germany’s loss today

That scenerio is worth exploring....by the time Niskanens deal is up Bouchard should be ready to go

Rishaug says this about the contract

“As had been reported out of Sweden, Oilers look to have landed Nygard. Likely a one year entry level deal (2way) just under a million bucks plus bonuses. Would be UFA after the upcoming season.”

he made $4.5m last year, so a raise is likely plus had his most consistent & productive season under Trotz and is 6'3" center that has scored 20g every year.

He's also 1-yr removed from scoring 35 points and prior to that scored between 40 and 45 points for 3 years. Would you be happy with 6x6 if he went back to scoring ~40 points?

Most of the fanbase didnt want him back, he was inconsistent under the prior regime, under Trotz he was consistent all year long and could possibly turn the corner, with FA looming he prob would have gotten more on the open market.
If Nelson would of had another inconsistent year, he wouldnt be back...

But that's one consistent year out of a career sample that's, what, 6 years long? It feels kinda like when Edmonton gave Pouliot that long term deal.

Don't think he makes more than 5.5 in UFA but I guess we'll never know now.

Awww sour grapes much...he must have watched the flames get bounced around by the avs and wanted to play with a team with real centers.

Not only is it bad at 6x6, but he makes 8 in year 1 and 3, full no trade years 1 and 2, partial no trade for the rest. This contract is on par with Lucic's.

Fabian Brunnstrom is all that needs to be said.

I would take 17 goals and 29 points in his first 55 games in the league for sure!

I find it funny that people are talking poop about Nelson at 6 mill per year, yet wish we still had Eberle’s 6 million dollar female dog ass here. Nelson is a much more useful player.

this is a bad take

who cares about the dollar amount any time in first 3 seasons

he had a career year and thrived under Barry Trotz, and Trotz isn't going anywhere

should the Islanders have let another UFA center walk for nothing?

I just think we have enough inflated contracts... if it was dollars in vs dollars out. Something like Russell & Brodziak or Sekera was going the other way I would be open to it. I think the fact that Minnesota would be possibly getting Kessel that would take us out if we were ever in.

True but like someone mentioned Nelson could be on par as Lucic which is quite comical bc they play different styles
But I'll be the 1st to admit that under Trotz if Nelly doesnt maintain or improve, he'll get ridiculed by fanbase and me
