Damn.

Ryoun-Noranda just scored 4-3 in the 3rd over Guelph.

14 mins to go.

.....and Ryoun-Noranda wins.

Entwhistle's season is over.

Go Halifax and go Gravel and Ryczek on Sunday!

I've been a proponent of trading Gustafsson because I think he will want a bigger contract than the Hawks should pay him, especially with the investment in all the d-prospects that will be coming online over the next few years. So the question is when does he return the most value?

If he is traded before the 2019/20 season starts, the acquiring team gets a cheap 60 point mercenary for the entire season. The coach would be able to have him in training camp and figure out where he fits in the team. That would be the best case for the acquiring team. If he is traded before or at the draft - the Hawks could get draft pick(s) that would help build their prospect pool. If he is traded after the draft it would most likely be in a package deal that returns players to the Hawks.

If he is traded in-season, the Hawks run the risk that last season was a one-off and Gustafsson isn't scoring at the same rate which decreases his trade value. If, on the other hand, Gustafsson proves last season wasn't a fluke, then his trade value doesn't decrease but the acquiring team gets only a partial season of his services.

Another option is the Hawks don't trade him and use him as their own cheap 60 point mercenary. The downside of that is they lose him for nothing and he gets the ice time and PP time a young d-man could get.

Lots to consider, but I say trade him at or before the draft.

You broke it down pretty well. I prefer the same to trade Gustafsson before or at the draft, particularly to get another 1st rounder. Thinking a trade between the Brouwer for a 1st (Danault) deal and the Hartman for a 1st (Beaudin), 4th (Kurashev), and Ejdsell deal.

I do not ordinarily try to dream up trades. I have suggested Gus for a #1 and use the pick for for a need, eg power forward type or beat everyone to Spencer McKnight.

Ok so here is a whopper of a trade if you think Stan is going to do something big

DeBrincat, Strome, Gus, our #2 2019 for
Draisalti and Nurse.

Maybe try to make it a #3 round instead. I can see reasons for consumating this deal. But i won't expound. I do not imagine Bowman makes such a big trade. Then again, maybe he surprises all of us

- jhawk59

Hahaha ya keep dreaming. Edm is not trading driasitle. Not a chance and for that no way.

Stay here long enough and you will hear even more Alice in Wonderland stuff. Something like Saad and the #3 pick the Hawks own for McDavid.

Total diamond in the rough. I hope his international and junior experience can translate into pro success. I'm not expecting him to play in Chicago next season, but hopefully it won't take too long.

It's the trend of the current way of doing business. Pay young guys for what they are projected to do vs playing older guys for what they have already accomplished. No fan on either side of the issue is happy. I'll leave it to Management to do the right thing.
- paulr

Correct. ....and that's the scary part. Will Management / McDonough have the stones to
set a precedent with young players and insist on a bridge deal, or cave to a Marketing fiasco (OMG) if they would lose Debrincat/Strome. As a STH....I would fully support the bridge deals. These players are in their early 20's for goodness sake. How about making WINNING the top priority boys ? If they want to be LOSERS in their careers.....So Long !! Their next contract in 3 years should be based on not only personal success but TEAM successes.

I’ll support the notion of players not getting all they can get in the marketplace if the owners give up some revenues by loosening some of the cap restrictions - Bird rights, vet slottings....let’s see ownership care more about winning than profits. (Less aimed at Wirtz / McD than at league ownership in general.)

And - assume Wirtz / McDonough play hardball with AdB / Strome and they walk or get moved - the fan base would explode with a fury unseen since...well...since the summer of 1972.

AA is an untouchable. He's working his butt off right now for the Ruskies trying to score against the Finns and their goalie from the Indy Fuel.

Joki doesn't seem to be getting much TOI against Russia.
Lankinen is outstanding in net so far.

Joki with an assist on Finland's goal. 1-0. Less than 10 minutes left.

Friedman linking Hayes to the Hawks. That’s yet another source connecting the dots between the two.

I think there’s more to it than people think, for better or worse.

If the Hawks sign him, I think Anisimov's days are numbered with Toews, Strome, Hayes and Kampf at center.

A 32 save shutout of a Russian powerhouse. Yeah, I would be surprised if he doesn't get called up at some point this year. Big question is if JC has something against Finns after coaching in Sweden for 4 years (red font).

Would be as deep down the middle as we’ve ever seen here to be honest.

As long as whatever differences there were before (if any) are mended over, then I’m all for Hayes signing on. Agree, center depth would be pretty good.
