assuming there is a full season lock out in 20-21 and we miss the playoffs this coming season

jack will turn 25 in the first month of season 21-22 and will be under contract for 5 more seasons before becoming UFA

- homiedclown

I don't see why any of that is problematic or a reason to trade Eichel, but I'm not surprised you're heading down this path

For the same reason we should be open to taking Callahan...
we should NOT be overpaying 3rd tier guys like Hayes for a temporary 2C fix

Gotta think long term,
and what it’ll take to make us a “contender”

- jdfitz77

focus should be skinner, and removing trash at the draft

then getting top end talent to round out the roster

IMO the need is for a top 4 d man
legit number 2 center
legit top 6 winger

Not everyone builds a Cup winner/contender as quickly as Pittsburgh & Chicago did

Look at Tampa
They blew it this year, but have a legit chance to win multiple Cups
And how long have they had Stamkos?

What about the Caps?
Ovechkin has been playing for like 13years now,
and won his Cup last year when most ppl thought they didn’t have much of a chance

St.Louis has been “building” forever
When will Winnipeg &/or Nashville win one?

What about the Sharks???
Neither Joe is getting younger

You guys tend to act like we are ENTITLED to have a Cup Contender sooner than later
But the Pens & Hawks are the exceptions,
not the rule

And BS quick fixes like Hayes, Duchene, and other good (not great) players that you guys seem to want to overpay are really just gonna prolong our mediocrity

I am not heading down any path

there is a chance we have Jack for 5 more years once next season ends, which is a fact

2022-23 his NMC kicks in, also a fact

if this team is not a cup contender, Jack will probably walk when the deal ends

the greatest hockey player got traded, twice

a team that has won nothing should explore almost every options to make his team better, long term and short term

if you were offered hughes, and the 2020 first round pick for jack, would you consider building around a younger hughes and dahlin?

I did not say they should trade jack, someone said only dahlin is safe, and I think it's fair game to have a conversation about it, and I pointed out facts

nothing more, nothing less

Mitts is our “legit 2C”
The options in free agency are horrible ideas

based on last season mitts might be best used as a winger, short term

Boo hoo

Can’t snap your fingers & build a Tampa overnight

You’ll say crap like “it’s been 12 years”
But that clock should really be started once we got Jack
Otherwise u could just take it all the way back to 1970

This team, this “core” we have, started with Eichel
No... we aren’t gonna win a Cup as quickly as Crosby/Malkin or Kane/Toews...
Eichel & Dahlin still have to get better & we still have to get a lot more talent around them

Just ask OV & Stamkos how long that can take
Hell... will Jumbo Joe & Marleau EVER get there?

if there is a lockout for 20-21, and I fear there will be

we will have already used up 6 of jack's 11 years here when the lockout ends and he will be on the back 9 of his sabres career

- homiedclown

Jack Eichel will enter off-season mode now after Team USA was eliminated from the IIHF World Championship on Thursday.
Eichel had two goals with six assists in eight games at the tournament. The United States dropped a 4-3 decision to Russia in the quarterfinals and the Sabres center didn't have a point in the contest.

another team the savior can't save.

1) why does it have to be based off his rookie season?
All of the sudden he’s not a top canter prospect anymore?

2) even if that’s true...
signing guys to bad contracts for help NOW isn’t gonna help get us where we wanna be

3) Need to keep building with the goal of winning a Cup in mind
Unless u just wanna build a team that can get beat in the playoffs every year by the legit Contenders

*but that way is gonna extend that 12years a hell of a lot longer

I’m with you on not overpaying Hayes.

But what do you mean by 3rd tier? Like 3rd tier UFA or caliber center?

As far as UFAs go

Top tier:
guys like Panarin & Stone

2nd tier:
Pavelski, maybe Duchene, etc

3rd tier:
Hayes, Nelson, etc

Skinner falls on the line between Tier 1 & 2 for me

But also...
yes, Hayes is a decent 3C on a good team
We need to aim higher imo

I’d say Panarin, Skinner, Karlsson, BOB, and Duchene are all in their own tier. They all are getting big $$ with 7 year term most likely

Stone re-signed

I’d say due to his age Hayes is in the next tier, but I don’t have a ton of interest in him. I think he’s ok, but they shouldn’t be giving him 6+ mil

The teams he has played on don't seem to perform well on the big stage.

I'm curious to see his performance when the Sabres have accumulated more good players. Can he be the driving force to get a team over the top?
There are questions there that are valid.

He was one of if not the best USA player that entire game

He was a puck possession monster, every time he had the puck he was a force

This post speaks to the frustration you have with the organization and I get it but why the hate at Jack?

Where is your hate towards Hasek?

How about Mogilny?

The French Connection?

who said to do this?

and the time to turn the corner is now, year 5 for jack and sam
year 2 for dahlin and casey

this team, based on rebuild time, should be able to easily contend for a playoff spot this fall
