"O'Regan is Group-6 free agent meaning he's a player at least 25 yrs. old who has completed three or more professional seasons and played in less than 80 NHL games. He's free to sign with any team."

Interesting. Didn't realize he's a Nelson

Gerbe.... this dude is now up in my DMs with Analytics charts trying to show me how Stone is leaps and bounds better than Hall. I'm in pain.

So EK says we are signing Skinner to trade him for Hall, next year. Classic.

He is, but I think you're the one who still thinks Risto is top pair material so it's a waste of everyones time in that DM exchange

Re this, why are they not holding firm at 8.25 or 8.5?

a team in ufa matching that would have to give a stupid high AAV for 7 years. If he's not happy at that number then he's at best lukewarm on the idea of being with the Sabres long term.

Try to keep him. Good depth at a position we're very light at.

Or he and his agent are trying to get the most money possible, as one does

That's not what he said actually.

He actually said that NJ would be interested in Skinner if he becomes a UFA and Buffalo would be interested in Hall if he becomes a UFA or available via trade. Then ended it with saying there's a chance that Skinner is a Devil and Hall is Sabre next year.

I didn't see a "trade X for Y" thing.

Stone is extraordinarily underrated
Great defensively
Will have a lower Cap hit when Hall signs his next deal
A year younger
And has become a legit offensive threat- ppg player over the last 2 seasons

Bc of the defense especially,
it’s probably a lot closer than one would think

A lot of people do, and there's a lot of evidence to back that up.

perhaps they came together on term--8 yrs.--and are in that $8-9M range but are trying to figure out how to balance salary, salary-structure, bonus-structure and possible no-move clauses into the deal

Technically an AAV of $16,600,000 is the most a player can make this year

He’s not gonna retire after this contract (most likely)

Buffalo- 8x8.5 for 68mil

Somewhere else- 7x9 for 63mil, + whatever he’s making in year 1 of his next deal

The total $$$ is A LOT closer than ppl are acting like it’s gonna end up

And I have said that Risto is a very good 2nd pairing guy and could play 1st pairing if in the right pairing and game. People dog on him because they think 5.4M AAV is a ton. It's not. He's the 43rd highest paid D man in the league but scores at the 23rd highest for a D man in the NHL. I'm not saying he is only an offensive D man either because he is very punishing and does over 225 hits a year. Does that take him out of position sometimes... absolutely. But it is very easy to sit on your couch and watch a replay and say "Oh that's stupid.. I would have made a better decision than that in my beer league."
