Bob Duff: When Many Doesn't Mean More
The Detroit Red Wings made 11 selections in the 2017 NHL entry draft but have already opted to let go five of those choices.
I called this year's ago. Since our drafting has actually been pretty mediocre, I advocated to use these extra picks to either acquire proven NHL talent, or as currency to move up in the draft.
Instead of Rasmussen at 9, imagine adding a 2nd and a couple of 3rds to move up and take Heiskanen or Makar. Instead we take a guy who's ceiling seems to be a 3rd line forward.
Or what about packaging someone like AA with a 2nd and a couple of those extra 3rds to land Trouba? Vatanen was traded. Would Glendening and a couple of those picks been enough?
Instead we wasted most of these 11 picks on trash.
