Carol Schram: The Vancouver Canucks can still learn lessons from the "Boston Model" With their shared history in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final and some other mutual DNA, the Boston Model still remains a blueprint for the Vancouver Canucks.

"Boston Model" They're in the SCF, but still getting man handled by some big STL D.

The game changes in the playoffs. JB's right he needs some more size and grit.

We have Roussel and Zack MacEwen in Utica, not enough. Protect the skill guys.

Boston St.L Pitts Mtl Cgy Chi SJ are good examples that you just don't need to only draft and develop.

I think with no more hand tying NMC Benning has a lot more wiggle room.

Sorry bro that is too simplistic.
The need is CHARACTER as deep as it can go. Skill sets or certain skills is only one part that makes a player. The shear will of players will always take a team farther. Passengers hold a team back if leaders don’t find ways to bring them into the tram fold & fully buy in. I’ll cite the ‘82 Canucks as a team of will that most ppl said was a lucky run. I don’t buy into luck i look into what happened & saw a team that played together from the coaching staff down to the last man on the bench.

Of course, to me those go hand in hand, but you're right.

When the JB’s seek out prospects & want character & hockey IQ those traits tend to go hand in hand. It’s too easy to stare at stats but very hard to find true winners driven to win. EP & Bo are 2 examples. Tanev like him or not it’s undeniable. There is a long long list of players that were not superstar stats players who led teams to their highest level. Then again there are many superstars that don’t rest & work on every aspect of their game continuously.

The entertainment factor alone is worth it . I am so tired of them trying to fit Baertschi Jake Leivo Loui in there and trying to pass them off as top 6 players.

Give me a Debrusk over Ehlers or Nylander any day and I promise I won't ask what his hockey IQ is or what his favorite movie or color is.

I wasn’t knockin you btw lol
In my team sports days i’ve been very fortunate to have played with some awesome ppl that would not look like winners on the surface to most ppl. My best best example is a 70yr old pitcher who led us to a Provincial gold medal. Harry Lavalee. He was even on TSN once Pratt saw him play for us in a tourney in North Van. When Harry 1st joined us & at our 1st game the other team was chuckling when he took the mound. 7-0 shutout 2 hitter later they were not laughing. That’s my reason why stats are only stats & there is no stat that quantifies a winner.

Some here like the term ALPHA.
What is that exactly?
I’ll give some of my examples...
Forsberg
Crosby
Gainey
Bergeron
Billy Smith

There are many more of course & not all need to be superstars or HOFers.

Kawhi Leonard for me is the epitome of a recent player to transcend a team with them taking on his persona. It’s so very rare a player like him comes along. The term generational player is nothing when compared to a player like him. Orr was not generational he was more than that.

Ok. I don’t like the sounds of hibernation. Tells me his motor isn’t always running to be the best he can be & not stop improving.
