Once upon a time the Dvorak contract was another sign of genius. But it backfired.

But don't worry. The Coyotes did the same thing with Schmaltz and Chychrun. Which you currently claim to be genius. Until it isn't.

Also make up your mind on Duchene. So you would be excited to sign him but it's not a smart move? Sounds like either way you win. Taking lessons from Ek?

No love for Phil the Thrill? While he makes $8M/yr, the leafs are covering $1.2M/yr so AZ would only be responsible for $6.8M/yr. Tocchet was known in Pgh as the Kessel whisperer. He had 82 points last year and 92 the year before that and he wants to play for the team. A pick and a player would satisfy Rutherford.

pull the trigger please

If you really want the click o meter to start going, propose Arizona offersheeting Marner this summer. Dvorak hasn't been the same player since MarMar wasn't on his wing anymore. Make that contract a real steal by bringing the band back together.

Man, there is so much here to unpack. Like, why do you assume everything is a binary, one or the other, love it hate it situation? Find me one time where I used the word genius to describe anything other than myself. Secondly, no one said it backfired either.

It is smart to bet on your own players. Like reraising a weak opponent, you only need to be successful half the time to make money. The Coyotes slightly overpaid all three of Chychrun, Schmaltz and Dvorak in order to recoup some value down the road.

Since they don't spend to the cap anyways, the opportunity cost of doing something like this is way cheaper for them than other teams. It's a smart move.

I like Dvorak, but if you can get Zucker for him, that's a no brainer.

Now, I know you're not that good at reading and understanding things, so I'll specifically tell you that because I like Zucker, that does not mean I think he's "elite" and because I would trade Dvorak, that doesn't mean he's garbage.

It is smart to bet on the right players. Nashville bet on Josi and Ekholm for under $8M combined. Smart. Boston bet on Pastrnak and Marchand who are both under $7M. Smart. Slavin was locked up at $5.3M. MacKinnon makes $6.3M. Scheifele makes $6.1M. Could go on and on and on.

So yeah, I fully understand the concept of betting on your own players to save on the cap later. Some of your readers know a bit about the game. The difference is Chayka bet on the wrong guys. Deal with it.

Those feelings go quite well with each other. It's a heart vs head thing. If the Flames signed Bobrovsky for 77 million dollars over 7 years, it would be very exciting, but not really a smart move.

This only applies if the reraise is 49% of the pot and not factoring floating, implied odds and variance on future streets. Much like in the Dvorak vs Zucker case, there is no simple answer.

There is no way to know this at this point.

Games played since signing contract:

Schmaltz - 0
Dvorak - 20
Chychrun - 40

How the hell did you write an article about two players and not include and advanced stats?? In fact your only analysis of Zucker is saying he’s “awesome”. You’ve changed james tanner.

Well I just didn't have any time. Should the day come where the Coyotes actually get Zucker, I won't let you down.

Hockey Buzz really needs to find a new writer for the Yotes. Dvorak for Zucker straight up is a terrible deal for the Coyotes. Dvorak brings so much more than scoring to the team. His value with astronomically higher than Jason Zucker. and I like Zucker as a player as well.

If they found a writer for the Coyotes who just played it straight, who would ever read the blogs?

Hey man, I too think that whenever someone has a different opinion then me that they should be fired and replaced by someone who shares my exact thoughts.

You have to admit, coyle for Donato was a homerun. The other trades... ya not so much. And he wouldnt even be creating much cap space by getting dvorak.
