I saw that, I like Mayfield but if Dobson can make this team see ya. Also lou said that hes done all he can at the jr level and it's up to Dobson as to whether he makes the team this year, that's refreshing

I wouldn't be averse to moving Hickey out, either. Aho should be more than adequate as a replacement and way cheaper.

If you are looking at St. Louis as a potential new mold; the new NHL is being built around grit and balance. It is harder to focus all your team's $$$$ on 2 or 3 players and build around them. It might work for a year or two when they are healthy and in their prime, and even then there is no guarantee of a prize, but if you can get a well balanced team, it can work. Eberle at $5.5 mil is a very good signing and I am sure he would have got that or more from a lot of other teams in a couple weeks. I for one do hope they sign Lee and I hope Lehner decides to stay here. I honestly believe it is Lehner's choice. I think there is a reasonable offer on the table; probably 3 - 5 years and in the $4 mil range. I think Lee has been offered a fair deal as well; we will see if his words meant more than JT's. They should also do what they can to get a reasonable priced winger that can compliment either of the top two lines like Marcus Johansson or Throw an offer at Kasperi Kapanen. Do what ever it takes to dump Andrew Ladd; I don't think he can surprise us with any further benefit.

Staple seems to think they could move Mayfield in a lesser deal, too. Would open up a spot for Dobson.

You can see Mayfield being moved sooner or later.

Mayfield played big mins and improved, his salary & term are cheap and solid, I wouldnt be so fast on moving him just yet.

This is a great signing. Wonder what he would have cost us if he just had a 60 pt season instead of 37. Likely much more than $5.5. I love this signing...

I like Mayfield but if Dobson is ready and Mayfield can be included in a deal to improve the top 6 you do.

I don't see that happening for a few reasons. 1. Mayfield has gotten better every year and is very very cheap. 2. Dobson playing this year is such a long shot for a lot of reasons but the biggest is he would have to be protected in expansion draft. 3. Lou is not a big fan of rushing prospects.

Not surprised. This is all Ek has been talking about since the end of the 2nd round. Eberle will resign with the Isles for 5 years at around $5.5 (e5)

Obvious choice is yes but depends who etc etc.
I would also see which RH dman can play on their offside & move either Leddy or Hickey?

I'd prefer to move Leddy more bc of value and having a 3rd pairing of Hickey/Boychuk for 1 more year might work well for both

Lou has already publicly stated (which is pretty rare) that “The two years he’s had, I’d be awfully disappointed if he didn’t have a great chance of making this team”.

There's no point in sending him back to juniors where he's already proven that he's the QMJHL's best defenseman and possibly the best defenseman playing Canadian major junior.

It's going to be huge if Dobson can play 3rd pair minutes and he gets to play under Barry and his system.

I doubt anyone is looking at St. Louis as a potential new mold.

It was a crazy run where they went from last place in January to Stanley Cup champions.

Remember the Hurricanes?

Let's be honest here: if fans think the guy is 500k overpaid, it's probably a good contract.

I would be pretty concerned. Way too many long term contracts handed out to guys in their late 20's or early 30's. Once Lehner and Lee are inked, what will you do to extend Barzel on his next pay day? He is quickly on the road to being considered "elite" and assuming Lehner and Lee are both in the 6.5M AAV realm, leaving 11M cap space going forward with few expiring contracts.

I mean your top 3 paid forwards are Nelson, Ebs and Ladders contracts which expire at the ages 33, 34, 37....And your highest paid D has another 3 years, being 38 years old when that expires. It is a lot of Cap commitment to guys that I would not consider stars in this league.

Didn't catch this one, but I've been warming up to the idea of moving Leddy for some sort of comparable package to what Hamonic got. Picks and/or prospects. That either restocks the system or strengthens the Isles prospect pool so they can work a deal with some futures instead of a guy making $5.5M for another few years. A lot easier to move a prospect or pick.

All players with two years or less of professional experience are exempt, so he won't need protection in the 2021 expansion draft.

This gets said every single offseason and every single offseason it's a bad take. What are they supposed to do? Let all these guys walk away and have Leo Komarov play RW with Barzal? Go to UFA having nobody signed, watch them walk for higher offers and then pay someone like Zuccarello $5.5M year?

Wait until we see what Hayes signs for, that's going to be hilarious.

I just don't understand how paying $5.5M for a career .71 ppg player is even close to overpaying?? The guys that care (GM, coach, owners, Islander fans) seem to be pretty good with it.

Eberle on Lee: "Anders is on his own path. No one can really blame him for taking his time or going to free agency. He’s earned the right to that. I know in his mind he loves Long Island." #Isles

Yes we know, you post it 5x a day when not a single person even mentions Nylander. Nobody cares and I don't think I've seen a single Islander fan say a word about Lil Willie. You have a serious inferiority complex and I feel terribly for you, it's so obvious.

He definitely has a little weenie.
