Oh sh!t I thought you were talking about bringing in serious talent for the 2nd line

I wasn't that busted up about losing Mojo but I'd be pissed off if he gave those two (frank)ing bone brains equivalent contracts on likely longer terms.

I'd take a chance on Ferland for 2 years at 4.

I don’t like it. Too high for a player who is Charmin soft. This contract is too rich by about half a million. These overpayments will add up and hurt.

And leaves only $7.3 million to re-sign Chuck and Carlo who are far more important than Heinen.

So what kind of $$ and term does Heinen deserve?

I’d be very very hesitant on anything north of $2.5 - $2.75 per season. In fact I’d draw a hard line in the sand at 2 years $5.5. 2 years, $5 million I think is a fair extension. Guess we’ll see.

Guy needs to shoot more and show some physicality... Even just a little.

- JEFF SPICOLI

is he a power hitter? Nope..could he take better advantage of shooting chances..Yes.. but does a great job along the boards retrieving pucks and I think he makes his line mates better with his defensive awareness..I think he is a total keeper. I still maintain that was a big error he didnt play with Rat and Bergy in the SCF..That 2nd goal in 7th game would never have happened...

Cehlarik also filed for arbitration apparently. Guess he’s looking for more than his qualifying offer. Guy looked fantastic with Krejci 2 seasons ago ... Seemed like he was the answer on that 2nd line wing. Not sure what happened. Cassidy seems to have him on a very short leash, and hasn’t been afraid to go public with his comments on Cehlarik which I don’t think benefits anybody. Seems like he doesn’t like the player, and seems like Cehlarik plays scared to make a mistake.
- JEFF SPICOLI

yeah...didnt like the commentary...i hope he busts out in training camp but Im not sure he is a 2nd line guy but we will see

Alright alright some high quality conversation in here the last week or so

Here’s a scenario: We find a team willing to take on Backes’ contract. They want Danton Heinen in return.

Do you do it?

- JEFF SPICOLI

was gonna say no even before heinen signed the new contract...thats too much to give up but certainly agree this is a big problem...YUGE!

I think he’s a ‘keeper’ too ... Just not at $2.8 per year. I just don’t think he’s worth that.

Love the cap hit, would be more palatable at 3 years instead of 4 though. Still a good signing in my opinion. We’ll see.

Wonder what Dzingel gets?

Yeah that's a pretty good contract wampum wise for Ferland. I really wouldn't want to give him 4 years from our perspective at least. I think he'd have been a better alternative short term for us than having 15 4th liners but the term is too dodgy.

The thing that's so irking about Backes is it was not just so fkn predictable but actual fact that this would be the outcome. Nearly the same with Beleskey. You have to wonder what these players are thinking when they sign, whether it's excitement over the piles of cash or terror at the impending exposure

The bigger question is how a front office thinks its a good idea to pay him that. Literally everyone knew that Backes contract was going to be a disaster. Its crazy.

Just a horrendous move. Looked like he had cap space and felt obliged to use it on anything available. Just weird

It’s the kind of contract that could (and should) get a GM fired ...

Your boy Dzangle got 2 at less than 4. Could be a good pickup but I don't think the answer we really need

Fair or not he lost some coin with his poor showing with CBJ including the healthy scratch. I feel bad for these average guys who can't even break 4 mil.

Have to go back to Zhamnov to see an equally bad free agent signing
At least we were able to write that one off.

coincidently for those that subscribe to the Athletic they just listed the top 10 worst contracts today based on comparing contracts of today vs the old lousy ones...i think..

1 Seabrook
2 Doughty
3 Okposo
4 Vlasic
5 Lucic
6 Matheson
7 Fowler
8 Loui
9 Ryan
10 Ladd

Backes didnt even get a honourable mention! Win!
