I hate to lose Kadri but he’s 29. Leafs due to cap restraints and injuries , will be taking a step back. I’d rather make the move now before it’s too late. Masai Ujiri has that cut throat mentality that I’m beginning to think Dubas does not. All the talk about leafs window closing, only being 5 years is so wrong. It’s just beginning to open.

He was invisible for most of the year, if we can get something for him it may be time. I like Kads but........

I feel the same way. The third line is not where he belongs

I'm not sure trading Kadri is a Ujiri type move, at least not a big time move. He was arguably the best 2nd line centre in the league and the best dollar for dollar cap hit outside an entry level player also. Then he got his ice time nixed, his role changed, and he was essentially demoted.

I'd like to keep Kadri as well, the Leafs don't really have anyone ready to stp in as 3rd line centre so trading Kadri for a Dman would a bit of a wash. They really have to be dealing from where their strengths are, to me that's RW, LD and to a lesser extent LW.

I could see this happening actually.

The leafs played him and payed him as a #1 defence man which he clearly is not, I can see the leafs tossing out a 1 Million dollar contract and dropping him on the bottom pairing.

I would be open to a Deon return for the right price, especially if we can’t/don’t resign Hainsey.

As for Kadri, I think now is the time to move him. He still has a number of good years left in him and on his contract. He’s only 29 and should be a number 2 centre. I would love to trade him for Trouba but Winnipeg is apparently on his No-trade list so that sucks.

As for his replacement, I think Derek Brassard would be a good fit. He is probably looking for a 1 year prove himself type of deal and that would be perfect for the Leafs. Plus he would help provide some depth scoring playing with Bracco and Trevor Moore.

Phaneuf? Never again.

Reimer? Maybe, if they take Sparks and the cap hit is 1.5 or less.

Phaneuf is atrocious. Never again. At no price. Ever.

Kadri's cap hit is too good and he's one of the only gritty guys they have. Can't trade him, he just needs to learn from his mistakes.

The influx of hot Reims evangelical wife and Elisha "first boner from TVO" Cuthbert, might offset my hatred though.

One of the Leafs strengths is the fact that they have two superstar centres and a third really good centre. Trading Kadri for anything other than an equally adept, younger more cost effective centre would be asinine. Besides that Dubas would have to convince another GM that the trade makes sense on their end as well and last time I checked Chiarelli and JFJ are no longer GMs

So Kadri is good and it would be asinine to trade him, but we need to trick a dumb GM?

I’ll keep him if the trade doesn’t do anything for the Leafs, you’re right there.

With Tavares on board, Kadri's role was dimisshed somewhat. More of a checking center.
