Chevy is an idiot, plain & simple. The overall mis-management of this team from the start has been ridiculous, along with the culture that has been created in the room. From trades to contracts to coaches to depreciating assets to all the locker-room BS - especially with the amount of guys partying like it’s 1980’s Miami, this franchise is completely messed up right now.
For all of you on here blaming Laine, start having a look at 55 bc he’s the real issue in the room & it’s all off ice crap. Unfortunately, he’s got a great contract & we have no centre depth. Can’t see things getting better. |

Overhardt is a hack anyhow and Trouba didn’t want to commit long term to the jets. What I feel you’re missing from the article is the obvious cap relief that we get from this deal. Granted Trouba didn’t have a term but he was going to cost a lot. If Myers leaves this trade looks bad because of the backend thinning out. Jomo is getting paid next year though, he deserves what Trouba though he should get. Go jets go |

I knew he was Trouba when he walked in.
But shame on C for putting him in a bargain bin.
Yeah I’m that saddened by this...
Excellent write up by Tessier I’d like to add. |

The deal looks like what the Jets would have gotten for a Trouba rental. Best guess other teams were offering a better player but not a first round pick.

Who gives a Northend (frank) about the pick though. Aren’t they in win now mode? |

Wow if they had bette offers why didn’t the Jets take those ... I’m not a fan of his but Trouba and his agent weren’t in control ... were they???
Chevy really got clowned here. |

Bad all around. Bad for the organization. If there was any truth in the Hamonic for Trouba rumour about 4 years ago, Chevy really blew this one twice!!
In the end we couldn’t even get a #2 center.
A project and potential. If 2018/19 was a step backwards, today’s move was another one.
Is that a window I hear being slammed shut!

I was just thinking...is it possible that Gorton told Chevy that I may offer sheet one of your big guys and in turn, Chevy said I’ll sell you low on Trouba? Because it seems odd how little they got for him. Like are they really vulnerable to an offer sheet? Also saw something that other GMs said they had better offers for him (which may be just hearsay, not sure) |

Agreed. But i'm talking more of a higher end prospect then a piece that can significantly help now.

And I agree with that. I had suggested send him to EDM for Pulleyharvi. Had to think Holland would have been all over adding Trouba to kick things off. I don’t get it. |

Pionk is going to be a solid 3/4 Dman for the Jets. Get him signed, now! You get your 20th overall pick back. You got Hayes; it didn't work; suck it up; St. Louis Blues played some inspired hockey and you just happened to be in their path! Trouba is now the Rangers' headache. I am sure he and his agent will bend over backwards to low ball the Rangers and accept whatever they get. If not the Rangers, some teams will soon be overpaying Trouba; my bet is the Rangers, though! |

We got fleeced on this deal. If Chevy was threatened by am offersheet he could have matched it or taken 4 1rsts and made a trade.
This was a major mistake. |

No team was going to sign him at 10.6 or whatever the limit is to garner 4 first round picks. The cap space is a major component of this trade. Sucks cause there were probably better players they could have received (maybe?) but they need room right now. |

The only thing I can think of for the low return is not being able to speak to him about his contract demands prior to trading him. If teams weren’t sure what he wanted they might not have been willing to go a 1st rounder+. |

Folks have to realize there is fair value and market value.
Trouba wanted out, never female doged, pouted or took games off which is a credit to him and his camp.
We had 1 year left with him, there can be no doubt.
With this trade we get a RHD that played 21 mins a game and a first rd pick in a strong draft.
Hit the pick and this trade in 2 years looks good, today not so much.
We got market value not fair value and with RFA’s it’s a decent return.
Remember the entire league knew Trouba was leaving so what kind of spot does that put Chevy in? One of strength? Don’t think so. |

I think the Rangers overused him last year and he got overwhelmed after awhile, he was pretty good first half of the year, poor 2nd half, especially after the Rangers sold at deadline, but that's to be expected. he's definitely got a lot of potential, a very young 24 years old, not a whole lot of miles on him. |

I thought Chevy should of been fired long ago, never impressed me and now has set this team even farther back from its goal to win a cup. I think it's time for a house cleaning, Chevy and the coaching staff need to go! |

1) Maybe we Jets fans thought more highly of Trouba’s worth than the rest of the league did ?
2) Maybe this was the best offer that Chevy got, so he took it?
3) Maybe Pionk becomes the puck moving, fast skating defenceman that is the trend in the NHL these days ?
4) Maybe we make a solid pick with #20 ?

I agree mostly with Benny on this. I'm not ecstatic about the trade but I am OK with it.
Bottom line is we got the use of Jacob for almost the full term of his entry and RFA status and mostly at salaries that were below his worth. Then we got a decent first round pick back again. Trouba never wanted to be in Winnipeg for the getgo but somehow Chevy managed to stretch Trouba out as long as he possibly could. Chevy certainly wasn't played.
NYC was one of the few options for Trouba without a gamble that he wouldn't sign. Returns elsewhere would have been minimal because it would have been a one-year rental. My only qualm is that even a 5 month rental for a top player tends to get a first, a prospect, and maybe a fourth liner. I guess the Jets value Pionk as more valuable than those last two pieces
The move had to be made now in order to afford RFA's like Laine, Copp, Connor, and possibly UFA Myers. As I said , I'm not thrilled, but am OK with it. Let's look back on it in 2-3 years. I also must say that I was not as big a Trouba fan as others on here. He made mistakes virtually every game and it was Morrissey constantly saving him.
At least the upcoming draft will be more exciting. |
