Kyle Turris @ 6 per for the next 5 yrs is ridiculous! I wouldn't even mind a few salary dumps and restock the farm at this point. The cupboard is bare!! |

Quoting ^
I had a thought last night, Shattenkirk for turris, but given the lengths of each contract, Nashville has to retain 2-3 mill per year. Then they’d trade Subban which has been rumored.
Turris at 3-4 mill a yr wouldn’t be awful for the Rangers |

Paul-
Trouba not traded for cap reasons. At least, not primarily.
You don't let a guy like that walk for cap reasons. And, of course, he came out and indirectly admitted he wanted to go to the NY Metro. |

Hmm... If you think things are crazy now, just wait four or five years when all the crazy money being thrown around now, comes back to bite everyone on the arse. 6 or 7 mil and term for above average players... 9-10 for the good ones. Even with a rising salary cap and Seattle joining the league, there's only so much money to go around. It's going to make trades all the more difficult to make, and really limit where guys entering free agency can go. Don't want to go to Arizona or Ottawa? Sorry, there the only teams left with the cap space to afford the ridiculous 12mil a year you're asking for. If every good young player starts expecting to get paid the big bucks after their ELC is up too, that just makes the situation all the worse. It makes me appreciate Poile's ability to sign our good young core players to reasonable team friendly contracts. (Different time and economics I know but still) I'm sorry but Hayes is making more per year now that Forsberg and Arvy... Forgot about how you feel about the Preds for a second and tell me many people you think would take Hayes over either one of them right now? Silly season indeed... |

Oh, and congratulations to Anaheim for buying out Corey Perry. You're looking more like a NHL team, and less like a Federal League goon squad everyday.

Logan Couture is signed for 8 years already - unless you meant Pavelski? I would bet Thornton takes a huge discount so Doug Wilson can stack a team. I'll predict 1 year 3M or less (could even take 2M).
I hope Nyquist walks. It's not worth giving up another pick and i wasn't a huge fan.
Finally Timo "leier' is worth Hertl money so I see a 5.5M for a few years.

Nobody is saying that, but the Preds clearly have cap issues. They have to re-sign Josi after this season and it is not going to be cheap! Dump some of the dead weight and go from there.

The only real issue is the Hayes deal. That's bad. The others fall in under the appropriate cap % compared to their production. However, Duchene's going to get payed according to last year's numbers and they aren't indicative of his entire career. That one scares me. |

I think yes it is crazy season but over paying top players is what the NHL is. I say over pay your top players, your players that see the most ice time, your core. The problem is when you over play your line 3-4 guys or lower tier defense. I mean think about it, teams structure deals so they can be bought out later in the contract, its not hard to get out of these deals over time and to be afraid to spend that money for good players is how teams become the perpetual team builders. Salary caps go up too so in 3-4 years these high price tags wont seem that high and the new contracts will be eye popping, thats major sports.
My team is the Sabres and im totally okay with an overpay of 1 million, as long as we don't over pay the lower tier players. |

Duchene is going to be expensive based on Skinner's contract. That's what scares me.

I don't think we're getting him. I'd say Poile doesn't move anyone to free space. My guess is more of the same: average role players and cross your fingers that someone from Milwaukee turns the corner.. cough..Tolvy... cough
That sound you hear is everyone in the central passing us by. |

A couple of weeks ago, I was around 75% confident Duchene would probably be wearing Gold this fall... Now I'm around 90% sure he won't be coming here. Preds can't really afford to offer him more that 9mil a year, and somebody's going to offer him more than that, and likely enough that even the lack of a state income tax in TN isn't going to help. My fear is Poile will fall back on some of his bad habits if Plan A doesn't work out... Like overreaching on an underwhelming plan B and overselling it to us, or resorting back to the Mike Ribero model like it's a blueprint for success rather than just taking his first season here for what it was, a favorable fluke. Poile will make changes, but I fear now they'll be more lateral moves for pieces interchangeable with who we have now. That might not be a bad a thing... As much as this team needs offensive help, they also need a injection of toughness, will, and desire... Things largely missing from a team last year that seemed content to just be there and collect their paychecks. |

I would actually be ok with bringing Boyle and Simmonds back with "low" two year contracts rather than throwing out stupid money.
We have the talent...we just are not getting the desire and production...so who's job is that ??? |

Rumors now that Duchene may get more than $10m on a long-term contract. No thanks! His avg career pts per game is only two more per season than Turris. No need to go from the frying pan to the fire.
