The Trouba trade was bad, but it's pretty clear that Chevy was not dealing from a position of power. Trouba wanted out and probably wouldn't sign with any other team. So they got their first rounder back and a plug for their 3rd D line. Only other option was to go another year with him. Probably not the worst choice tbh, but he was clearly itching to get out of Winnipeg. Sucks.

Exactly. Thats the sad thing with the NHL. The cap makes overpaying someone by $500k-$1m seem like a $10m over payment. Pathetic.

Sounds like it's time for a new GM. He's made them very mediocre. If they need an elite scorer, they're not getting one from the draft, and they're not signing one without paying them stupid money.

The only path for them to get any better is to make a stupid move and hope it works out.
