I'm just as happy that Kadri turned down Calgary. He's a mindfart away from a big suspension due to past behavior problems on ice.
And I can't see finding room for both him and James Neal on the second line (assuming that Frolik does get shipped out and Bennett signs here).

Why in the world would Neal be on the 2nd line

Judging by what the Avs gave up, I assume the trade would've been Brodie+ for Kadri.

The organization is just a bit short on natural right wingers these days.

Imagine for a minute that James Neal found the fountain of youth or transforms himself this summer.

Tkachuk- Bennett- Lindholm
Czarnik- Backlund- Quine or Froese or Jankowski
Mangiapane- Ryan- Dube

Swap Neal and Lindholm if things just don't click. Neal still doesn't work on the 3rd line unless you're comfortable with Czarnick on the 2nd.
3rd line Right Wing is the weak spot and, honestly, Janko probably belongs in Stockton these days since everyone is better at center ice than him.

Froese isn't an NHL hockey player. Foo, Ruzicka, Pospisil, Gawdin, Robinson, Phillips all have a better chance of making the team.

Wonder if the Jets can be a match, their backend looks like a ghost town & maybe Brodie or Hamonic + for Ehlers can be worked out.

Otherwise Canadiens could be a good match for Brodie as well. Nothing wrong with a Juulsen + 2nd & 3rd in 2020 (Canadiens have tons of picks) for Brodie gets us lots of cap space to do other things. Move Frolik as well & then go after Ferland maybe or Gusev.

No Idea why Kadri nixed the trade but maybe it's because he didn't want to be fighting to be the no. 3 center. In Colorado, he looks like the 2nd line center. IMO, the Flames need help on the right side of the lineup, especially if they move Brodie, Frolik or Stone. After that, their next weakness is probably goaltending. Not too broken hearted that this fell through.

He wouldn't be guaranteed first or second line centre spot on the Flames. Kadri is a second line centre at best. I'm glad the Flames didn't get him, he's a hothead that would be a cancer in the dressing room. He made a throat slash gesture at Giordano a few years ago and I'm sure Gio remembers that.

Giordano intentionally took out mcdavids knee and other acts leading to suspension...pot meet kettle...kadri prob didn't like the team vibe and reputation of some players as he himself has those issues. He would have been guaranteed second line center in calgary but prob wanted to ditch the punk boy image alot of flames players carry proudly...

Haha Spencer foo left the flames organization and preferred to play for khl and China...you know things are bad when a propect picks China over your team...kid should have signed with edmonton, he would have been developed properly in the minors...foo was just another example of flames trying best the oilers at anything they could...inferiority complex...

Kadri wanted to stay in Toronto and he tried to use a clause in his contract to keep him there. I don't think it was personal. He knew the Flames would have interest and it wouldn't have been too hard for him to see the trade possibilities between the Flames & Leafs.
