Only something like three teams can realistically do so, and I don't see any of those teams doing so.

Sakic seems like too nice a guy to offer sheet a player.

Ray needs to shore up leaks on the back end, not acquire another big named forward.

Lou? Considering how much he got jerked around in the past with teams taking his players, I'm pretty sure he doesn't seem the type to offer sheet.

Friedman said one team wanted to offer sheet Marner big money long term but Marner wants an offer sheet in the 3 year range, teams don’t want to do that because they have to repeat the process soon again.

I would think the Canadiens are just waiting for the clock to run out on the Aho offer sheet

When the picks are free'd up why wouldn't Bergy make a run at Marner? - got to think he'd at least offer the 10.5 million where the compensation is 2 1sts a 2nd and a 3rd

Would Marner sign it? Maybe.... If he thinks he's not going to get north of 10.5 any other way. At the least it would force the Leafs to match, if the term is right (4 years) it would get him to UFA at the earliest possible date

Habs have nothing to lose by trying, They haven't lost anything with the Aho attempt

If Ottawa signs him at 10.55M x 4 years do you match or do you take those two Ottawa 1sts (plus a 2nd and a 3rd) straight to the bank and hope they are lottery picks?

I'd love it it was Montreal. Marner would have to sign the offer sheet stating he's willing to leave the Leafs and play for the Habs.

No turning back then.

I think they match anything up to 10.6.

Yes they have lost. They pissed off Carolina, a 10.5 Million offer gets matched and the Habs get nothing except more eroded goodwill in the NHL. It will take an offer that exceeds $11 million and guarantees 4 firsts for the Leafs not to match. And I doubt Montreal has the stones for that. They have some good young prospects, giving up 4 firsts with possibly a couple of lottery picks would set them back in the long run not to mention paying $12 milliion or so for a winger.

That's assuming he's smart enough to have learned a lesson.

8.5x5 offer sheet is coming from bergy. Everyone should agree with this.

Oh noes.

And there's no way the Habs offer sheet Marner for more than 10.5M.

I don't even expect them to offer sheet him at all to be honest.

I would definitely be tempted by Ottawa's firsts especially with a contract that brings Marner straight to UFA.

Don't worry, it's only a matter of time until he locks up his prized RFA anthony beauvillier to a 6 year contract worth 32 million dollars.

He probably would.

He's awesome.

Are you guys seriously pushing the narrative that the Habs should be scared of a Carolina offer sheet?

I won't lose any sleep over it.
