How come it seems like every year there is always one situation that is talked about constantly ad nauseum.

The worst part is, they will likely settle and it will be for one of the proposals that have already been made by one side or the other.

Im fine with 3 years if we still have arb rights and it can be a lower dollar hit. Problem will be the loss of possibly one of those years to a lock out

Yeah and why is only marner being talked about. What about all the other rfa's. Why is nobody offer sheeting Laine or the others. Only marner. Drives me nuts. Get this poop over with.

Just go 4 year and get it done, even 3 year at this point lets get it settled and over with.

This is going to have such an anticlimactic conclusion. He will sign here after the season starts and stay for the next little while.

What do people think would have to be added to Marner to get Jones from Columbus? One of the best RHD in the league at 5.4m for 3 years. I don't think BJ's move him for anything less than Matthews but hypothetically speaking he'd probably be the only person I'd be willing to move Marner for other than the obvious one sided trades or for McDavid or something.

Top 4 would be:
Rielly - Jones
Muzzin - Barrie

Would give us cap room to afford one of Muzzin or Barrie easily next year too

Ignoring cap hits you don't. But if Marner is going to hold out or sign this mysterious 12.5m offer sheet and be way overpaid I'd add to him to get Jones at 5.4 for three more years

It depends. I think Willie has a pretty great season this year...and if he gets 75-80 points do you really want to be paying Marner 10 million for slightly higher production?

I think he signs for 3-4 years and depending on how the year goes he may be traded...

I agree about Bill Nye, but I also think Marner could hit 100 points while killing penalties and everything so he's gonna be a legit all world superstar. People are getting a little Islander fan like about this and nothing has even happened. It's like Marner cheated on them or something, meanwhile every other RFA is doing the same thing.

In this case, 'mysterious' is kind of like the mysterious Bigfoot, or Easter Bunny. Or Phil's hot dog runs.

Marner needs to be signed prior to the start of the season otherwise his cap hit for this year will be worst than Nylander was last year.

I think Marner is better than Nylander...but it is much closer than people think.

I think Nylander can be even better than Mitch on the PP. He can pass with precision but also has a lethal shot. I think that is why Marner's PP numbers went down...teams took away the pass to let him shoot.

But Willie playing with the 5v5 beast himself in AM and not playing with the scrubs on the 2nd PP unit I think Nylander finishes within 5-10 points of Marner this year.

Moral of the story...if you think Willy is overpaid at 7 million you are in for a world of hurt with Marner at 11 million
But I agree people are getting pissed at him...he doesn't deserve that...but I don't think people are wrong in the slightest by saying they would drop him in a heart beat if he sticks on 11 million.

He will be..It is likely a 3-4 year deal and on a short term deal its important for Marner to not miss playing time.
