A comment on the Chi-BUF trade.

On paper, looks like a steal for BUF, and all the criticisms of Bowman on this one may end up being bang on.

That said, go back to 2017 when Bowman was an "idiot" and Jarmo K was a genius in the Saad-Panarin deal. And today, Bowman has Saad and Jarmo has nothing—because Bowman did, in fact, know then what Jarmo found out, that in 2019 Panarin was heading to the East Coast, preferably NYC, pretty much no matter what.

Point is, in trades like these, sometimes there's a back story that never really gets exposed until later, if ever, and the trade will end up looking quite different a couple of years out.

Quenneville liked Joki but I heard that the Hawks later saw something in terms of Joki's d-zone coverage where he was vulnerable to one side and that was part of why they sent him back down. The other thing is, RIGHT OR WRONG, the Hawks are now very high on Ian Mitchell and Adam Boqvist and both play right side (like Joki).

Schmaltz-Strome last year, another one, but again, that could end up looking better for AZ in a year or two as both players develop (or not).

Reserve judgment for at least a year or two.

And Bowman was so shrewd with all that super-secret knowledge that he turned one of the premier wingers in the game into a retread of Brandon Saad? Stop. He should've been able to get an absolute haul for Panarin and he got a good 2nd line winger. Not about to roll out the "you're so smart" banners for that one.

I actually think we're kind of agreeing. He got what he could for Panarin when he did it, knowing he was going to leave in 2 years. And yes, Jarmo probably was willing to offer that because he also knew how unlikely it was that he would keep Panarin.

All that said, Brandon Saad is not a bad hockey player (at all) and Bowman has him at a fair price (take a look at Kevin Hayes for $7 million a year if you disagree). Jarmo has nothing.

It was again confirmed that Lucic already has his bonus, and it is not July 17.
McDavids bonus is July 17, which might be whats confusing everyone
