2 year deal for Rittich at $2-2.5M per I think would be fair.

Anything over 2 million is too much, and an arbitrator probably doesn't even go that high.

Is Rittich still a RFA if they sign another one year deal?

Todd with Talbot getting $2.75 do you think that sets the benchmark for the baseline salary rittich is asking? they are expected to run as a 1-2 but rittich is our goalie of the future so does this drive his price up say $3.5 to $4 mill?

Also with the flames sitting at $9.47 mill free and arbitration cases looming its safe to assume one of

Frolik
Stone
Brodie

Will be on their way out ASAP for cap relief to sign Tkachuk, Bennett and BSD? Seems pretty quiet on the flames front for deals (minus the kadri for Brodie deal). There was a ton of chatter about frolik leading up to the draft and then it all kind of disappeared. Treliving didn’t take advantage other first buyout window for Stone either. With the 2nd one open does he now take advantage of it?

Not that it changes your question but that 9.47 includes Gillies, Quine and Dube. At least one of those players and maybe all three will start the year in Stockton.

It's been a little too quiet this offseason, Tre has a bad cap position right now and can't do much until he figures out the Bennett, Tkachuk and Rittich contracts.

4 years at 14M for Ferland, wow Benning is like Chia Pet 2.0. Why would you sign a guy that is so injury prone for that amount of $$. The guy is made of glass.

Well, the guy has played an average of 74 games a season over the last 4 years... that's not bad considering the way he plays the game

And you know he'd be a factor vs the Flames in any playoff series he was in as well.

Seems like a pretty good deal for Ferland to me. His concussion history is certainly concerning but he has legit skill and could really help the Canucks. I like this move a lot from a Cancuks perspective. Not excited to have to play against him a lot more now though.

You obviously don't know anything about concussion problems. Vancouver is taking a huge risk on him considering how many concussions he has had and will in the future. But its good from a Flames perspective.

I was looking at all the teams with lots of cap space and a need (or at least room) for a defenseman. New Jersey, even after they sign their RFA's only have 7 D on their NHL roster and 11 forwards. They have the cap space and could probably use a bit of help on the back end.

I think they are the ideal trading partner for the Flames.

Brodie
Frolik
Dube or Kylington
2020 6th round pick

for

Michael Mcleod
2021 - 2nd round pick (Upgrades to 1st rnd pick if Brodie resigns, Lottery protected)
2020 - 3rd round pick

I don't like giving up Dube or Kylington but to land a guy like Mcleod plus get a couple decent picks a team has to give something up. In my opinion Brodie is a top 4 guy on a good contract for the year and could play himself into a very good contract in NJ long term. Frolik is an NHL player that gets them to the cap floor for the season and Dube and Kylington are looking to be future NHLers so either make them a good sweetener for this deal.

Flames get cap relief, add a couple picks and gain a RH - C/RW (a team need)
NJ gets a top 4 defenseman (that can play either side), a bottom 6 forward and either a potential future middle 6 forward or a potential future middle pairing defenseman.

You're treating Brodie and Frolik as if they're pure cap dumps ala Justin Braun, but they actually have good, if not great value. An average prospect + a couple mid-range picks are already not enough to land Brodie alone, and you add Kylington or Dube as well from Cgy? Damn.

Flames are tight, yes, but not desperate. We can still buyout Stone and pretty much keep the same roster without having the need to dump anyone else.

Scrap Dube/Kylington from the offer, make that 2nd rounder a top 10 protected 1rst right away (not conditionnal), and we're talking. Also, Flames already have Monahan-Backs-Janko-Ryan down the middle, so we don't need another bottom 6 center like McLeod.

If I'm the Flames, I'm looking into a Brodie + Frolik vs Palmieri swap. But the Devils already lack firepower up front, so I don't think they're good trade partners anyway.

Picks for Frolik wouldnt be all that bad. With Canucks getting Ferland, would like to see if they can get Reaves out of Vegas for cheap. Vegas needs cap space badly.

Yeah these cap problems are way overblown. Things are tight right now certainly but a Stone buyout should be enough to get everyone signed without moving out anyone else. Brodie and Frolik have value and don't have to be just cap dumps, and Brodie is more being talked about because of the emergence of Andersson, not because the Flames need the space.

I'd gladly take a 2nd for Frolik. But this isn't the offer.

And no on Reaves, except if Vegas retains 50% and ask for no more than a 5th.

That's a bit of a leap - what I'm saying is that despite your "he's made of glass" comment, he hasn't missed an abundance of time. You're not wrong in that concussions are concerning, but it's not like he's going down with injury left right and centre.

Not sure why you think it's good from a Flames perspective:

1) When healthy, he can still hit like a mack truck
2) Even if he does get injured too badly, Vancouver can LTIR the cap hit anyways
3) If he avoids the scraps and injuries, he's a pretty solid top 6 option on an otherwise soft team
