2 more trades would be a crazy offseason. I can’t remember an off-season where a Gm made 5-6 trades.
- Sabretooth9

Doesn’t seem like dmen are getting the premium in trades these days, like they used to. Leads me to believe me may see a couple of our lesser dmen traded? Risto stays and maybe McCabe and Scandella go? McCabe for a decent forward and Scandella for a 5th or 6th round pick? I’m hesitant to trade a dman who has 40+ points per season in the last 3 or 4 years anyway unless we get a stud forward back. I’d hate to see Risto excel elsewhere, like we saw with O’Reilly. Risto seems to lack a good hockey IQ but I’d like to see what Ralph can do with him.

To me he is guaranteed to be an NHL d-man. Realistic projection says #4, could be a top pair, could end up being a good #5. Regardless RHD are hard to come by and I like the move for us.

I agree, like the trade. Just seeing a lot of people already thinking he’s a sure fire top pair defensemen and think we are getting ahead of ourselves

Most things I've seen project him as a middle-pair d man, with #2 potential

And he’s already done it successfully for nearly half a season in the National league (whereas Nylander has been female doging without justification about oppression more than Beady)

If we are trying to win this season he should be paired with Dahlin.

Makes as much or more sense than Risto, Bogo, Montour, Nelson or Miller. He should at least get a shot

I actually think we may be in trouble when it comes to the Seattle Expansion Draft. According to Cap Friendly these are the players who will be Exposed come the E.D.:

FORWARDS

Eichel, Jack
NMC Skinner, Jeff
Okposo, Kyle
Johansson, Marcus
Reinhart, Sam
Sobotka, Vladimír
Sheary, Conor
Vesey, Jimmy
Girgensons, Zemgus
Wilson, Scott
Mittelstadt, Casey
Oglevie, Andrew
Thompson, Tage
Asplund, Rasmus
Olofsson, Victor
Lazar, Curtis
Dea, Jean-Sébastien
Smith, C.J.
Elie, Remi
Larsson, Johan
Rodrigues, Evan

DEFENSE

Ristolainen, Rasmus
Bogosian, Zach
Scandella, Marco
Miller, Colin
Montour, Brandon
Hunwick, Matt
Dahlin, Rasmus
Hickey, Brandon
Jokiharju, Henri
Pilut, Lawrence
Borgen, William
Nelson, Casey
Stephens, Devante
Gilmour, John
McCabe, Jake

GOALTENDER

Hutton, Carter
Johansson, Jonas
Hammond, Andrew
Ullmark, Linus

I think there is a very real chance that we will lose a really good player, especially on Defense, unless Botts figures out a way to set up a side deal.

Expansion isn’t until 2021 though so any impending UFA’s don’t count and half the guys on the list won’t be here.

That’s where you use the 2021 first round pick to have them take Okposo. Lol

Even when you take out all the guys who may not be here come the ED Buffalo will still end up losing a great player that was suppose to be part of our future. I think the real issue is with Defense. Even if we protect Dahlin, Joker, and Pilut, that leaves Montour and Borgen exposed. I would prefer not to lose either of them.

We don't have many great players at the moment. By the time the draft rolls around, if our players develop into great players, we will do what Winnipeg did, give them a first to take a certain player.

Let’s worry about getting into the playoff rather than worry about who we can and can’t protect in an expansion draft almost 2 yrs away.

Couldn’t disagree more
The expansion draft should 100% be on Botts mind

We shouldn’t be trading assets for someone we are just gonna lose
Or trading for someone if it exposes a guy we want to keep
Then u lose assets in the trade,
and best case... lose MORE assets to protect that guy

That makes ZERO freaking sense

You don’t trade your blue cheese for a wing if you’re just gonna have to give that wing away

Botts isn’t building a team for 1 or 2 years
Hopefully he’s trying to build a team that can be a contender for the long haul
And that means taking into account who u might lose to Seattle

An expansion draft in 2021? Are you kidding me?

Great read....hilarious!! “Alex Nylander, a 21-year-old forward whose poopty stats are only outdone by his stagnant-puddle-of-horse-piss work ethic.”

Wtf??? 😂😂😂😂

We don’t all give our opinions based on what Gerbe should do in his NHL’19 game
We give them based on what we think Botts should do

Come on man
It’s just common sense that u gotta look ahead
Losing a guy to expansion isn’t really different then if we lost a guy to free agency

If we are trading assets...
don’t we want them to be for a guy that’s gonna be here LONG TERM???

Idk... that’s just what makes sense to me

there is an east side to the city. at the very bottom of the lake. and then it becomes worse. it becomes indiana.
- Gramps28

I would take offense to this. But it’s gary Indiana which is probably top 5 worse city in the USA.

If we are focused on something that is two off-seasons away already, then we are not seeing the forest because of the trees.

Botts has likely figured out what he would like to do for the expansion draft. He can't have a deal in principal with anyone because there isn't a front office yet. That won't happen until next summer.

Worry about the moves for this year. I want Botts to make the moves today that make the team better now. He's made moves for the future. Jack and Jeff are locked up long term. Sam extension is likely. Dahlin will be locked up next summer.

Johannson will be off the books by the time the expansion comes. Bogo, Scandella, Sobotka, Girgensons and Larsson will likely be off the books too.

It's really a moot point to me, until we get there.

We may be losing a decent player.

No side deal can happen until the front office is set up.

There's no point in trying to figure it out until then.

He should, and I'm certain he does, take it into account. If he operates scared for two years, then he should be fired immediately. Like what was stated earlier, there's no point in worrying about it as fans, as the roster will look drastically different in two years.

I regret not taking a shot at a regional scout position. That would have been a lot of fun.
