Who did this?

I can't imagine anyone thinks this is truly possible.

Skinner is Danny 2.0 he’s going to be So clutch in the playoffs
- gerbe75pts

I agree with this. Hope we get to see it next year, but I'm thinking we may still be two years away. Skinner will step up his game in the playoffs.

Don't disagree with anything you said, but on an 8 year deal, I'd take Laine.
- Lunaion

This every single time. No offense to Skinner, but Laine is only 21. He is a 6'5", 205lbs fast powerful winger who put up 110 goals in his first 3 seasons. In 8 years at the end of the contract Skinner will be 35 and Laine 29. Based on how the Sabres are built, Laine would be a much better fit for the next 8 years. Also, Skinner played in the CHL which obviously is a negative and Laine is Finnish which seems to fit what the Sabres are building.

It seems kind of strange that they wouldn’t give him a contract when he’s the best wide receiver of all time

Sure now. But skinner was a disaster in his own end like Laine.

Skinner was not known for defense or hustle and was considered one dimensional as well.

Laine is young. Laine will be better than skinner.

He has all the talent to do so.

- ImThatGuy

Laine also scored half of his goals on the PP while Skinner scored 8 of his 40 there

Put another way, Skinner had more even strength goals than Laine had goals of any type.

He'll probably end up passing Skinner as the more talented player, but he hasn't yet, and taking a $10m gamble on him is more than I would want to do, personally. I'm fine with known-commodity Skinner at $9

Just like EKane was going to be a monster in the playoffs? 2 goals in 20 games.
Skinner may or may not be good in the playoffs. Who knows? He's been in the league 9 years and hasn't played a single playoff game.

Look at his 15 powerplay goals from this year. He sits right where Eichel does. Are we going to bump Eichel to PP2?

Of course we are all aware that EV goals count more than PP goals, but in his 3 years in the league Laine has 66 EV and 44 PP goals. Over that same time, Skinner has 82 EV and 19 PP goals. So Skinner's 16 more EV goals must mean more than Laine's extra 25 PP goals. Also they have the same amount of assists in that timeframe.

Laine is a sure thing. He guarantees you 30 goals a year.

First three years -

Laine - 110 goals - .77 ppg
Skinner - 64 goals - .69 ppg

Laine is already better than Skinner. I believe that.

He surely is debatable top 10. He's clearly not #1 (and no one will probably ever top Rice) but to say definitively he's not top 10 is not great either.

Eichel's zone entry numbers on carry ins are stupid good.

He needs to stop shooting that halfwall shot wide so it rings around and out of the zone though. He kills a lot of powerplays with that.

As for Laine, the dude is a goal scoring beast. He is coming off his worst year which was 30. I'd take him in a heartbeat. He can play on the powerplay with Eichel.

Laine, 16 points in 23 playoff games. I can’t believe people are down on this guy.

If you have a chance to get Laine for Risto.

You buy a Mach 1 jet and you fly Risto there before they realize how bad it actually is.

In 3 years Eichel has 21 PP goals and Laine has 44. Maybe you make adjustments to get the best results.

Nope.

Special teams don't matter. Also neither do faceoffs, +/-, binge drinking, spankings.

What does matter.

Olives.

I said it.

Dallas has 970K to sign Julius Honka, with a roster of 23 players inc. Honka. They will absolutely need to make a trade, unless Stephen Johns is put onto LTIR.

I'm not trying to poop on PP goals. They are very much needed. But Laine scored 20 in his 44 goal season, and 15 in his 30 goal season. He plays the same position as Eichel on the PP.

So the Sabres pay this guy $10m to take Eichel off that spot and put Laine there? I don't get it

If you take out his first 3 years in the league, which he didn't start, and still put up very respectable numbers, he's averaging 114 catches, 1524 yards, and 11 TDs over 6 years. Those are debatable top 10 numbers and Homie's right. He can be slotted anywhere from 5 to about 20 depending on how you want to phrase your argument.
