Teams figure that out pretty much every year though
Idk of there’s some kind of loophole
Or of the nhl just doesn’t penalize them for the day when it’s clear what the team’s intentions are

Ya, I had to laugh at that "high price" comment.
Not that he has established his high price, but the fact he is again puting a high price in view of Kane and ROR where the returns was rather ordinary.
As you know well the lust price and the actual price are different.

Smith is decent and IMO would be great with Jack and Skinner...doing the dirty work so they profit while he can pot 20/25 himself o. A reasonable contract for 3 years.

- IonSabres

I think he’d be a good fit too
Idk why Vegas would move him though...

Can’t they just give Reeves or Eakin or whoever away for a pick to get under?

They figure it out by moving guys on the cheap leading up to the season.

I'd rather continue to discuss the fiction that is the Ristolainen for Nugent-Hopkins trade from the guy with The Hockey News subscription.

Ok
Day 1 trade, Smith + Eakin for Tage, 2020-5th + future consideration, saves $8.9m to become Cap Compliant.
Day 2, Clarkson on LTIR
Day 2 trade, Risto as fulfillment of future considerations

Right
But i don’t think it’s like you’re saying it

The salaries/Cap hits are prorated
So having Clarkson on the books for 1 day doesn’t actually put Vegas over the Cap if they have a little room

Divide that 5.25mil by the total number of days in the season
That’s how much he’d actually cost against their Cap (or something like that)

The NHL basically lets them get away with it
Vegas does not need to be 5.25mil under the Cap when the season starts

Can you imagine? With Nugent-Hopkins, they would have 2 #1 overall draft picks, and two #2 overall draft picks. Then they really would be the "Edmonton of the East".

I’d rather just take Gusev off their hands
Wasn’t the asking price only a 2nd?
Done deal

Then we can still trade Risto for Ehlers or whoever

Jesus Christ you just like to argue.

Ok smart ass.

Take the salary cap and divide it by 185 there’s you daily cap.

Now do the same for Clarkson’s cap hit.

It’s the same thing dipsh!t. Especially because they have little to no wiggle room.

You use to bring so much more to the table.

What I’m saying is that the NHL doesn’t penalize them for having Clarkson on the books for a day

It seems like you’re saying Vegas has to be 5.25mil under the Cap to start the season
But that’s not true
It’s only a fraction of Clarkson’s hit that they need to worry about
And it doesn’t have to be figured out day1

They just have to make sure they don’t exceed the Cap by the end of the year
And I’m sure at some point they’d have a guy they can put on IR that would cover it

There isn’t a “daily Cap hit”
It’s season long & cumulative
Teams just have to make sure they don’t exceed it by the end of the season to my understanding

I’m not being a smart ass
I’m simply saying that Clarkson’s Cap Hit is not a factor for them like it seems you’re saying

- dadeadhead

That's not true. There is off-season LTIR, with different relief formula. You get less relief, so it's much less common to use.

They have to be at his daily cap hit but being as though it’s day 1. The team hasn’t been able to accumulate cap space.

I don't have an MBA or an accounting degree, but reading about daily accrued cap hits is more boring than watching U15 shot put

Can't LTIR until day one of the season unless they’ve changed the CBA since the last agreement.
